England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Sumatra Black
I am being given a free freelander 2

The Mrs is giving me her old car! An 07 freelander 2! Very Happy as she is getting herself a new car!

And her dad is servicing it today and fitting new pads and discs all round Thumbs Up

Might sell it and get a disco though!! Having owned L200 pick up trucks for the last 6 years it will be like driving a rolls Royce! Black FL2

Going to save me a small fortune in diesel too!

My truck does around 23-25mpg and I reckon the freelander normally shows around 33!! Bow down Black FL2

In my experience, gifts from the Mrs are rarely 'free'. Whistle Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

What reg was your disco? I was hoping to get 25mpg but if its 20 that's shocking as my 2tonne pick up truck does more than that!! Black FL2

Hi warrior, no worries , I bought it new in 2009, it has 30k miles on it we struggled to get 24 mpg real mpg, not what the obc tells you (it lies). In the winter with fuel burning heater
On we were often at 16-18mpg . On a run to Oxford at 60mph we managed to get 31 mpg . If you live where it's flat it's great , live nr hills and yer screwed , but the mpg aside it was a stupendous car. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

I wouldn't be able to stretch to an 09 as it would be a second car but might keep the Freelander a little longer then until we really need the 7 seats... Black FL2

We had 300tdi prior to the d3 and on the daily work crawl that did 25, and 30 ish on a run , but the d3 is 1/2 ton heavier than both the tdi and td5, weighing in at 2.7t you can't expect much else really. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Barolo Black

We sadly had to let our Disco 4 (3.0 TDV6) go for something more practical, mainly because we could rarely better 27 or 28mpg up here in the steep and twisty North.
Loving our new Freelander (our 5th) and after only 700 miles or so we're pretty content with 31+ mpg so far, but expect it to improve as it all beds in, as all the previous FLs have.
I'd say, stick with your FL2, trust your wife and be careful! so you don't absolutely need the 7-seater MY13 SD4 HSEL Barolo/Almond/Privacy Glass/Spoiler

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

2.7 HSE auto averaged 25 over its life, and it did school runs, town journeys, towing and motorways.

Short journeys kill mpg in anything, if you do longer journeys and don't drive like you needed to arrive yesterday the discovery was actually quite frugal compared to a lot of the big 4x4's Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black

If you do 10,000 miles a year at approx £7gallon.
@ avg of 27 mpg = around £2,600 per annum
@ avg of 30mpg = around £2,300 per annum

So it is £300 per annum difference give or take.

So to change a vehicle to get approx 3 mpg improvement is a costly exercise and could take many many years to recoup the loss. (not pointing at anyone in particular).
Work out the loss on the vehicle you are selling plus the xx amount of ££,s to buy the new vehicle and IMHO it will take many years to make the cost to change pay.
That is just basic fuel cost, not to mention servicing/tyres/ved/insurance etc

So many people sell vehicles, losing money in depreciation and pay through the nose buying another newer more efficient vehicle thinking the running costs they are leaving behind from the previous vehicle are going to save them money running the new one. If the average cost to change is around £8k that was a lot of miles/years of driving on your original vehicle
The only time to use that theory is if mechanically the vehicle you own is going to cost ££to keep going.
