Battery charger verses Smart charger

I might have a bit of cash coming my way so i'm thinking of buying a battery charger along with a few other bits and pieces. Are there any pro's and cons of a conventional charger verses a smart charger? I read on hear that alot of people like the Ctek smart chargers. As my FL2 has stop/start its a 80AH battery, Can anyone reccomend the correct size charger at all?

Thanks all! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Stevie. if you search Ctek and go on their site it's fairly easy to size the charger up.

Hi Bish,

I looked at their site and was abit confused Embarassed I saw the MXS 3.6 charger, it said "7–75Ah up to 120Ah for maintenance". As my battery is an 80Ah battery is it just a tad too small for my battery? Next one up is the MXS7 "14–150Ah up to 225Ah for maintenance" I know its alot more beefier but is that the better one to get? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I looked into these ctek chargers recently and ended up buying the MXS 5.0 - Around half the price of the 7.0 and suitable for batteries up to 110Ah. Haven't had any problems so far Smile 2012 SD4 XS Santorini Black

The 5 or 7 amp is ideal for what you want, I have the 10 amp one because of charging the caravan batteries also.
A smart charger optimises itself depending on the state of your battery and can be plugged into the rear boot socket to top up the FL2's battery without disconnecting, during the winter and with my short journey's I plugged it into the cigar socket every few weeks just to keep the battery at its best.

I have read reviews in the past re Ctec chargers and they seemed to come out on top.

unless anything better has come on the market since then, I would buy one.

Hi, I had never heard of charging up a battery using the cigar socket. Does this work then and are there any issues to be aware of

Lifted from Disco 3 seems a good idea to me.
