Please, don't cut corners with tyre repairs. There is a right and wrong way to do it. Repairs with tyre string or liquid should only be a temporary get-you-home repair - they are not safe as a permanent repair. The tyre should always be removed for inspection and repaired in accordance with the British tyre manufacturers association. We always fit a new valve and of course, the wheel should always be rebalanced before being refitted. That takes time and it costs. £24 is an excessive charge, we charge £15 but that is for a proper, safe, repair. Kwik-Fit used to do free repairs and only charge for the valve and balance but they must have changed their policy. A tyre repaired in accordance with the British Standards maintains its original speed rating, any other method doesn't!

When I have had repairs done the tyre was removed from the rim, the inside of the tyre abraded at the point of puncture, rubber adhesive is applied to this area and also to a mushroom shaped bung which is then inserted from the inside and the remaning tail cut off.
