Hi peeps,

Thinking of getting a freelander 2 it was between that and a disco. I've considered all the other suspects jeeps, range rovers, Porsche cayenne etc.

I'm leaning towards the freelander it looks cool and the mpg etc isn't too bad. I was hoping on leaving it until June time before purchasing one in the hope of them dropping in price slightly. However the missus starts a new job in a month so we need a new motor pretty quick.

Are there any issues to look out for or to check have been done when I'm looking? I'm after one with under 50k miles ideally (does this matter?). I was thinking re-sale wise as I'll be doing about 12k miles a year. Are they reliable what known faults do they have as with any car they all have them

Budget will be about 12k ideally. I've started looking and they seem to be priced about 11-13k. What model is what etc I've seen the hse (guessing top spec) and SE models and some others???

Also what upgrades etc are good to do? Wheels, sidesteps etc.

Stay away from JEEP nothing but aggro and the tech on jeeps as nothing on the LR2.. I'm PXing my JEEP for my LR2 HSE and im hoping the jeep lasts till the 6th of April when i can hand it over and wipe my hands clean of it

Cheers for the reply. I was guessing that with the jeeps, the patriots can be picked up for feck all. They look crap inside though and I thought they'd be pants all round.

There seems lots of toys on the LR2. What colour and year did you go for?

A few things to check before buying

Check that it unlocks/locks with the fob paying attention to the rear door as water ingress upsets the locking mechanism.
Look for signs of water inside rear hatch door caused by leaking third brake light.
Look for passenger carpet wetness caused by air con drain pipe dislodged.
Make sure you have two fobs and check they both work, remember to swap use every few months to keep charged.
Check front seat belts are not frayed on edges, there is a modification available for this.
On a startup, after a few seconds check no warning lights are illuminated on the dash.
Make sure you have the wheel locking nut socket handed over to you.
All wheel arch trims (push on metal reinforced rubber trim strip) tend to expand and look grubby after a few years, cheap enough to replace but feel under the arch and get dealer to do if needed.
2009, should also have had a brake fluid change if/on third service.
Check all movement of electric seats.

Nice one, I'll check all them points when I look.

Watch for clutch slip on the Manuel, on the test drive accelerate hard in third and fourth off roundabouts if possible checking for slip, it won't do it from standstill.

It took me 6 months to find a nice 08 HSE no dints ,good working order and low milage,ask questions take for long test drive not round the the corner.. ask how every thing works,get them to show you how it works..

My hand over took over hour and half ,I have been told the space shuttle pre launch checks were quicker...but i wanted to make sure every thing still work from when i tested it..
