Thumbs Up and a few letters typed is adequate for me, even then a lot don't bother and the less animations in the post the better as it distracts the eyes from reading the message.

Just my view.

I thought the O/P was a F1 comment Whistle Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

But the trouble with that is that it creates a whole new post in that thread and clogs up the forum. I would like to have just clicked a 'Thanks' button in the OP's post. Then, instead of one post followed by five more posts with just a Thumbs Up , the original post will show 5 'Thanks' from different members embedded into it. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

But the post been thanked ends up with half a page of thanks been listed below it to scroll past to get to the next comment

I've seen a full page worth will hundreds of names listed and I think it clogs it up, were as 99% just press it for the sake of it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I think it saves space. A lot of space if done properly. Look at the space saved in this thread on another forum that I go on - thanks from 10 members doesn't take up one line! Now, imagine 10 posts giving the thumbs up with members profile, signatures etc.. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=141062

Compare the space taken up in that line of 10 thanks in post number one with the space taken by posts 5,6 and 7. No contest! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I'm not sure I put this across in the right way....
I pay a annual fee to have a thanks button on my forum and its located on each members post, but on the other hand I run a old skool garage download sites, so I guess its more suited there than here... a thanks button feature my not even be supported here .....
I think I may of confused a few members on here by adding the Thanks smiley on my first post at the top of this thread BETTER looking half of the famous Twinlanders

Perhaps I misunderstood too. I would expect the thanks button to be used mainly when someone posts up a 'how to' or gives advice that helps a fellow member, as in the example link I posted. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

If your bothered about people quoting / replying due to database issues this should help as its a flag.... just a thought.

The "Thank You" button......hmmm, not sure it has any real use, if someone offers advice it is not a problem for someone to say thanks, if many people do it then it may become a sticky.
Some are very sensitive when not thanked, I would see a Thank You button having a similar effect, the OP would not know who thanked them.
The system is also not foolproof, someone could build up many thank you's simply because their inane comments are appreciated by others.

Keeping the forum neat and tidy is not easy, on occasions "quoted posts" are deleted without the dreaded red pen being used, that itself makes the posts not flow as easily, the red pen tends to be used for persistent offenders, of which, there are many.

The most courteous reply with thanks would be via PM, if keeping the threads clean was an issue, whatever happens, thanks by any means is appreciated and will ensure the poster provides more useful information for the future.

I understand where you are coming from , I am a member of a photography forum and many excellent threads for critique are ruined by endless plebs posting " great pic", a thanks button would then serve as a vote which it is not.

Here is a quick sample of what i have on the forum i run - im running freeforums.org that Powered by phpBB - same as on here
Find it nice and simple this way and it frees up a lot of space and of course members still comment along with leaving a Thanks
