Plasti Dipped my Grill

Hi All
I wasn't so keen on all the chrome on the new FL2 so I decided to PlastiDip my grill.

I did this on my drive with just some masking tape, news paper and cardboard to cover the radiator.

Personally I think its come out very well. All the excess just peels away or rubs off, so it was far easier than I ever expected.

The light made the grill look a bit wierd at the top to the left, it's not really like that.

Rob

Plasti Dip is apparently the new trend in painting cars and car bits. Basically it's been around for a while and used for insulation, foam repair and coating tool handle etc, but some fella obviously thought it would be a good idea to try it on a car.

It's really rubber spray in a can, although you can get finishing coats to make it gloss, metallic or Pearl.

Basically you roughly mask off the area, clean away all the tar and polish, then spray about 5 coats. At the end you peel off the excess that natural cuts itself at the edges of whatever you are painting.

Really easy and no mess....I'd almost say fool proof, especially considering this was my first try.

If you don't like it, you simply pick at it with your finger, then peel the whole thing off. Doesn't damage the paint or plastics.

A tin cost £11 when it's in stock at Plasti Dip Uk.

Rob

Thank you for the explanation, I am now educated just that little bit more.

Do you reckon it would stand up to a blasting with a Karcher / Eastern European valet as you state it can be just peeled off?

Well I'm told it can take a pressure washing but time will tell.

It also protects from stone chips etc so quite durable.

Just had a quick peek on youtube regarding Plasti Dip - this stuff is amazing, the "new black" dare I say? Whistle

People in the States are coating everything!!!! Not sure what the long term effects would be on a cars existing paint job though. It seems pretty durable so maybe a light blast with the pressure washer would suffice.....

Scratch that thought, guy in the video just blasted 1800 PSI at it and the stuff never budged!!!!!!

Anybody else on the forum had experience of this stuff???

I used this on my SEAT Ibiza for the badge and covers. Stood up fantastically well to weather, salt and jet washers! No signs of damage etc etc. Very good product!! 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Hi, the black and silver badges are from a fella on ebay called Andibitz. Here's the item number for the rear quarter door post badges....item number http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200871723926

He was pretty helpful as the newer freelanders have the same badge as the Disco 4, and he changed my order so it was right without asking.

I did all the badges and steering wheel, plus the wheel centre caps....and looks good.
