Had same problem on my new MY13. So swapped standard bulbs for Halfords Ultimate bulbs and much better particular on dipped beam. They were doing 2 for 1 so £30 well spent. Thumbs Up Disco 4 HSE SDV6 Orkney Grey

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Baltic Blue

My first drive in the dark coming home from work tonight in my MY13 GS with UK lighting pack.

I would say that the beam pattern is actually very good, but the light output is pretty poor. Also, the yellowish colour looks terrible next to the signature lights. Time for some replacement bulbs, I think!

I don't like the policy of denying access to the HID lamps to us mere mortals with S/GS variants. I would have had to fork out over £3k extra to spec an XS with HIDs and pretty much the only other things to show for it would be a better stereo and a satnav. I don't think so!

Thanks for the reminder of this. My default choice for my next car was another FL2, but I live out in the sticks and single optic headlamps are unacceptable on a car of this price. I wouldn't mind so much, but the essential Xenons are only available from XS upwards and that's just out of budget.

I wonder if the basic Evoque is afflicted with the same problem?

Glad I ticked the option for the lighting pack for my GS that I'm due to collect on Saturday.

Not that simple as I suspect the loom/connector will be completely different (judging by the threads on here discussing upgrading to the MY13 rear lights).

I have recently traded a 2008 XS with bi-Xenons for a 13MY, also XS with bi-Xenons. Before purchase, I raised the issue of DRLs instead of Halogen main beam supplement on Freel2 and got no real technical answer, even from Liam at LR, except that "the lights are now the same as Evoque, which is faster".
However, my first 4,000 winter miles has shown that the new Bi-Xenons are actually better than the old ones with halogen extras as the lenses have been more focused into the distance on main beam.
I was persuaded to go for another XS just so I could tick the bi-Xenon light option that is not available on GS. It's sounding as if I made the right decision if the Halogens standards are this poor. I'll be interested to read if there is anything wrong with the dud lamps Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Thank you, but I was wondering if the Evoque Pure comes with twin optice Halogens as standard, or if that too is now restricted to single optic halogen lamps as standard?

The issue is that, unlike the original lamps, the two filaments may not be lit together for more than just a few seconds. The last time that I had a similarly equipped car was an Austin Montego from '92 to '94 and that was not at all clever for a night trip over Dartmoor Sad

Colin did you change the lamps with the whole fitting left on the car or take out the whole fitting, it's a doddle if you remove the whole fitting from the car. Two bolts on top, a lever at the back and unplug the harness. Thumbs Up

@Colin T2, the bulbs are actually single filament, but I agree the Osram NB+ are a very worthwhile upgrade.

In fact, with the upgrade completed, I'm content with the lights. A good beam pattern and the bulb upgrade gives that bit more brightness. Not to the standard of the HIDs on my Jaguar, but certainly not so poor as to worry about any further upgrades!

I should say, I don't have much call to travel completely unlit minor roads at any sort of speed, so I can't comment on the effectiveness of the main beam. I'm guessing you must miss the extra lamp in those circumstances!

OK I am confused!

clearview pack vs uk lighting pack vs no pack (on the my13 gs).
I understand the fog lamps (and the leds) as being the differences between the 3 - but in terms of headlight brightness/quality - are they the same? (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc
(Going) 2013 TD4 GS Auto - Santorini Black with black leather. Cold Climate, UK Lighting & Armrest Packs. Privacy Glass. LR Rubber Mats. Full size spare.
60 000 miles averaging 35mpg

(Gone) 2010 TD4 Manual GS - Stornoway Grey. Sold at 3yrs old & 64k miles. Final average consumption 39.2mpg.

@flylr, as I understand it there's only two options for the actual headlight, projector halogen or projector xenon (can only be specified on XS and above).

No pack = Projector halogen plus LED DRL
Clearview pack = Projector halogen plus LED DRL, also fog lamps and headlight washers
UK lighting pack = Projector halogen plus LED DRL plus signature LEDs, also fog lamps and headlight washers

So on a GS your basic headlights are projector halogen plus DRL
For an extra £305 you select Clearview and get them washed (and get fogs)
For another £145 you select UK Lighting and get the signature LEDs, too.

As you say, effectively the same headlight whatever you choose!
