United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver
Land Rover service - software/firmware update?

Hi! My '57 plate Freelander is due an A service in May. We purchased it second hand through Stratstone Swansea where it has been serviced since new but I notice that two types of service are available. A Stratstone own brand service which uses OEM parts for £199 or an official Land Rover service which includes authentic parts in addition to a firmware / software update.

My Q is, is it worth the additional £100 for the official service? I have no way of telling what variety of service have been conducted. Would a firmware / software update apply improved engine mapping and improved MPG?

Many thanks,

Andrew

Software update

Just a thought
My 2010 GS was sold as ex demo in Oct 2010 and was updated at handover.
I bought it end of last year and checked both with Liam at LR and with my local dealer they both stated that there were no updates since then.
So - if your car has had a main dealer full service since Oct 2010 it most probably is fully up to date. Software link up with their laptop would be charged at around £50 so why not ask them to tell you what you get for the other £50.
Kind regards

Software Update

Hi Fred,

£100 is a bit steep just for a software update but I guess it does at least include authentic LR parts. As the Stratstone service included OEM parts, what are your thoughts on OEM and LR parts? Is it actually worth the difference in price? I imagine not.

There was a wedge of paperwork supplied with the car and at the top of the pile was an invoice for £35 only 6 months previous for programming of the door mirrors to close when the car is locked. A 5 minute job I imagine.

I must be honest and say that so far... (touch wood) Stratstone Swansea have been very good as there were a couple of things that needed sorting under the three month warranty plus they were the cheapest by £30 for a new type and swops. My wife and I walked out of Stratstone Cheltenham due to staff ignorance.

Thanks,

Andrew
