don't start me on fuel prices. best way to cripple an economy is to cripple its logistics system imho.

MPG depends on which engine is in a particular vehicle. So trying to do a like for like is a bit pointless.

Talking about MPG in any form is pointless, there are dozens, if not many dozens, of threads on the subject, comparing MPG and stating that it is not what was expected, not what the manufacturer claimed etc etc.

The car weighs just shy of two tonnes, it has had absolutely no thought given to it regarding aerodynamics, it has a four wheel drive, drivetrain, this adds drag as well as weight and it is a certainty that fuel prices will only ever rise, the rocket scientists amongst you will now be hearing a "kerching" type noise, the others will be trawling the net looking for an expensive additive they can put in to make it do more.

For what it's worth mine is 35.8 Laughing

Isle Of Man 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Narvik Black

After four years of driving, always filling the tank at each fuel stop, recording mileage, fuel used and cost per litre I can confirm that my average fuel consumption is 29.4mpg. The best I have got is 34.7mpg (a trip to england and mostly motorway driving) the worst is 26.5mpg. I definatley do not drive like Miss Daisy, but also do not drive like I stole it.

My dialy comute to work is up and over a mountain with speeds ranging from 50 to 90mph, depending on the weather and traffic. If the weather is good, the traffic light and the roads clear, it would not be unusual for a speed of 100mph on the way down the mountain (great living in the Isle of Man).

Its not the most economical of cars, but its better than our X5 3D Sport (21.5mpgaverage ) or our BMW 330i (25.4mpg average).

You can definatley see a difference between winter and summer economy, winter being the worst.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Bali Blue

Dont know what was wrong with my FL2 today but had a 120 round trip to Daventry and on the way there was averaging 50mpg! Shocked Even when I came home in the rush hour along the M6 Birmingham carpark I still managed to pull onto my drive with an average of 44.5mpg. Admitably I was stuck at 50mph through the lengthy roadworks in brum but still hit 70-80mph everywhere else Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

My Evoque is returning 31.5mpg at the moment. Even my old SD4 Fl2 managed 33mpg around the town. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

For those who think the manufacturers (all of them) are having a laugh at our expense (surely not?) there's a new report out. see today's Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013...NTCMP=SRCH

Perhaps the only thing to do is for manufacturers to be made to enter each model to a testing facility similar to the ones for the NCAP and Type Approval Question
