No matter what, I get to about 34mpg sometimes a bit lower, had it reading 90mpg the other night pressed the reset button at the start of a long 3 or 4 mile generally downhill section of my route home but by the time I had done the up hill section too, it was at 38mpg but after some varied driving last few days has now settled around 34mpg again.

Having recorded every drop into the tank for 86000 miles and 188 refills on my 2008 XS (09MY), I can report an average of 38.94 MPG calculated (min 32.79, best 43.65). Average of all trip computer readings over the same period was 40.1

Mine always seems to say 35.3 whatever. I have just set myself up an excel spreadsheet to calculate tank MPG and overall MPG by just entering the ODO reading and fuel added. It is calculating at 34.1 but different tankfuls vary on use. It seems to do better on warm dry days and we haven't had many of those lately. I only use branded regular diesel and am adding Millers currently. I was reading an ESSO fuel specification sheet last week and that indicates that they change from winter to summer diesel at the pumps and back on 16th March and 16th November. Cetane number is higher in summer diesel so maybe better MPG due to that. Usually keep aircon off unless needed. Try to keep right foot down to 70 if possible. Certainly much above that hits fuel hard. If anyone wants the spreadsheet then send PM with email address and I will send it.

The difference with summer & winter diesel is primarily the Cold Filter Plugging Point. This is the lowest temperature that a given amount of diesel will still pass through the cars filtration system within a certain time. (not to be confused with Cloud Point)

lol.... just made my day. I've been trying to track mine and their seems to be no logic 31 odd around town then 32 on the motorway. Also turning the AC ON increases the range! I'd be intrested in knowing how the MPG is calculated... ie the last 25 miles... instant or other. Mine usually indicates about 37-38 mpg, on the trip computer. Which is almost always spot on when filling up and the maths done. This is with a mix of my smooth driving style, and my Wife's accelerate until brake style. Usually over an even mix of town type driving, and a steady 65 mph (ish) commute to work. |
