I know this has come up before, but the only time this happened to me I used the tailgate button and did not double lock the car afterwards. Seems there are various suggested reasons - but it's basically a glitch in the system. Favourites are: not double locking, switching off while using bluetooth phone, leaving wipers or lights on auto. Could also be caused by alarm going off repeatedly.
Or maybe it's just random

Left my little Landie for 5 weeks as I was away on the boat. Came back expecting a flat pancake battery. No surprise that both key fobs were dead - hate the damnnn things - why can't they just give it a proper key!
So did the passenger door opening trick by removing the handle cover. The alarm sounded which was encouraging and then hey presto it started without even a churn - thank you 3 year old battery. Even the handbrake released ok - would an epb have done the same?
So time for nice long run to see if the key fobs can be rejuvenated.

I switched off my bluetooth but the flat battery problem persists -- twice within an interval of two days. I charged the battery for 4 hours a week ago and so far -- touch wood -- all is well. But on past performance the battery will gradually exhaust itself down to 11.7 volts and then refuse to start the engine. I am now going to give up with the Freelander and go back to a Lexus.

It's a common problem with aftermarket radios, particularly the sort that stay on to gather traffic information when ignition switched off. Not heard of it happening with an OEM radio before, but the FR2 radio is a bit weird - comes on instantly as though it's been on all the time.
One to watch out for!

My radio doesnt,its still booting up when the engine is started.

Ooer! Mine is the standard radio. Could be the posh one is different.

Mine did this the other day and once started by Mr AA it fully charged and is fine again, looks like a common fault.
I Have read through most of the 6 pages here and mine happened after 8 months of no battery problems.
I was using the phone via the Bluetooth after pulling up at my house, so switched the engine off and carried on the call. Got out and locked as normal.

Now looking through here there seems to be a fairly common mention of Bluetooth/phones so I think this is the connection.

Mine does say premium audio i thought they were all the same.

Looks like a good idea may be to disconnect the radio and sing to yourself, helping to tackle the problem. Will start today with Les Miserables, or Queen

My wife went to start our 58, FL2 2.2 td4 this morning, wouldn't turn over. An transmission fault traction reduced light came on across the dash screen, along with an HDC fault or something like that.
I checked the battery voltage, was at 9.3v So very low. Have placed battery on charge. If it starts again OK, will check to make sure alternator is working OK. Then will replace battery.
Any thoughts?

2. Any devices / lights / etc left in/switched on overnight?
3. If quite old / no devices left on, I'd be tempted to fit a new battery

Same battery from new (4.5 years). Nothing left on over night. Trickle charged battery for 4 hours, battery voltage at only 9.8v now.
