I was (naively) expecting auto trader to be filed with 2 to 4 year old freelanders on Friday from all those trading up to the new plate...but there was hardly a murmur!

Is that because dealers only update their stock lists online periodically or the trade ins will be more of a drip throughout the month?

I'd imagine that unless the owners of the new 13 cars picked theirs up on the 1st, it will be a steady drip throughout the month. Then they've got to get the cars checked over, repaired and prepped. Or sent to auction. Might be more available in the middle/end of the month. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

There has never been a big influx of used FL2's on the market after a new reg since the FL2 has been launched. This is why residuals have been so high.

People are also holding on to their cars for much longer as well. I spoke with one of the marketing guys at LR recently, and he was telling me that from surveys done on FL2 ownership, they have found that people who have bought their cars new, the FL2 is the model which the first owner has kept longer than any other product in LR's history (ecluding Defender).

The LR dealer nearest to me seems to have significantly fewer FL2s than usual on their website. Maybe they've somehow been clearing them out prior to the new lot coming in.

I think it is a case of people hanging on to them for longer, hence the shortage of 3-5 year old cars. Also some dealers report a drop in 13 plated vehicles sales due to superstition.
I know the dvla have made a special thing to allow you to register as 62 plates but who would do that to a 13 plate car?

Also some dealers are warning that trading 13 plate cars could have a lower residual as they may get stuck with it on a resale.
To me a plate is a plate.

13 plate defender extra hard 666 edition RSJ front bumper, then go out 'collecting' caravans on a bank holiday weekend Just give the vans rear end a hefty side swipe, make sure the tank slapper is nicely set and will cause a write off, then power away to find new prey.

I suspect witness will remain quiet about this new super hero returning the roads to those that need them At work

As someone said, it's a number, I registered mine on the last day of the 11 reg, dealer gave me an incentive to do this as it helped a slack months figures, whether the difference will be worth it at the end remains to be seen but by then it will have 100k miles and have served its purpose so I ain't bothered.

Well we cant be too superstitious in NE Scotland. Local dealer had that many cars due out on the first they were having to do half of them from another site. They now also also have plenty of used FL2s if anyone is interested  2014 SD4 HSE

I would think a lot of 13 plates then were company/fleet cars so the users wouldnt have a choice about the number 13??
