I�m looking at changing the front brake pads this weekend. I�ve done the back a while ago, but as the front is a different set up, I was wondering if the large anti-rattle spring on the outside of the front caliper needs removing.
If so, is it difficult to get off and back on?

YES it needs removing and NO its not difficult

screwdriver gets it off and back on. There are normally 2 hooks in the middle section which hook into holes and the 2 arms reach out to brace against the caliper bracket.

The spring kind of pivots around how it hooks into the holes. to get it off, I normally just put the screwdriver under parts of it, lever it, and it pops off.

To refit, I normally try to angle it so the hooks point at and go into the holes first, then pivot it on the hooks to push it in and a screwdriver to lever the arms into the right place.

Unlike the hooks, the arms don't really click into place, they generally just rest on the metal in place.

Easy to get off and on. I just used a screwdriver to lever off and on, although I did have to do a minor fettle with a hammer when I put one back on, no drama though.
