had my wheel alignment done today, it was out of alignment so they corrected it for me.
since the alignment the steering wheel is now facing at 1 oclock when i am driving in a straight line , if i keep the steering wheel straight ie 12 oclock it goes to the left . is this normal or should i go back and have it redone???

It obviously wasn't done correctly and it obviously isn't right.
The alignment was done with no thought for the straight ahead position of steering wheel, by adjustment of both track rods they should bring it back to the centre position and keep the alignment.

i have just phoned them up and they were still open, i told them the problem and as you have just told me it is because they did not put the steering wheel in the 12 oclock position when setting alignment (or as they tell me it may have been knocked slightly out when tightening) .
i will take back tomorrow and they will adjust for me .

wheel alignment resolved, took car back and they redone alignment with steering wheel in correct setting.

It's a pet hate of mine, having a wheel that's off centre

My car was handed over to me with mis aligned wheels by the dealer! I noticed it straight away as I too cannot abide an out of line steering wheel. I complained, they said they'd set it up correctly, but after some 'frank exchanging of views' they agreed to have another look. After a laser alignment I got a grovelling apology. That said, it seems easy to knock it out of alignement.

As Yorkshire rightly says, each rod must be adjusted proportionally to maintain a centred steering wheel. If all of the misalignment is taken up from one rod only, the wheel will be off centre.

In Andy's case, the wheels were probably perfectly aligned, they'd just been slack jawed about doing it!

Yep. My pet hate too!

They should do test drive to check this before handing the car back.
