Day 3 of ownership.

As I run a motor vehicle training centre I took my Freedlander into work today to get it on the hoist to give it a proper look over. It was probably the heaviest vehicle that I have put on our single post hoist. See pics in my gallery - don't know how to put them into posts yet.

I had the wheels off and checked them for balance - miles out. I could feel a slight wheel wobble at speed when I was driving it home on Saturday so they were balanced and fitted correctly - I had one brand of tyre front and rear on the nearside and another brand fitted front and rear on the offside. Pressures were well out too - 40 on the rear and 25 in the front! Set them at 32 all round and fitted them correctly in pairs across each axle. Next thing was to check the brakes. Front discs and pads were virtually new but there was a bit of a lip on the rear discs and the pads were about 50% worn. I also took the precaution of removing the rear discs to check the handbrake shoes due to Wifey driving it yesterday with the handbrake on! http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic14837.html. Found the handbrake shoes heat-cracked so I've ordered some Mintex shoes, pads and discs along with a shoe fitting kit. Will fit those either tomorrow if they arrive or Weds. Will take some pictures if I remember.

Checked all the lights and transmssion oil levels - a bit low on both axle so will top up with the correct oil.

I had some Phillips Extreme H7 bulbs in stock so I whipped out the headlamps and changed the dipped and main beam bulbs. Don't know if that will give an improvement though as they seemed quite good at night anyway.

Discs, pads and shoes will cost me about £120. Just been down the main dealers and spent £252 on a set of new numberplates (personal reg), front and rear mudflaps and oil, air, pollen and fuel filters. Add that to the £400 I paid for the plates, £85 on a set of genuine rubber mats, £45 on a spare remote off eBay (£65 to be programmed) plus a dog crate @ £55 and it's starting to cost! Worth every penny though.

Noticed that the rear washer was useless and when I opened the boot I saw why - my load cover was soaked so it must be disconnected or split inside the tailgate. Another job to to tomorrow.

The side-steps and rear spoiler will have to wait for a while.

You can't do it with an iPad, you will have to load the pictures via photobucket or similar then copy and paste the details to a thread

I have that problem. I use my iPad for posting threads and for some reason it will not copy the BBC code! I have had to resort to writing it by hand and typing it manually into the thread.

Great looking motor! Great to hear that it is being given some TLC.

Looks good.... Needs a good detail

How do we know that you posted it on the iPad?

Because I can't be arsed going upstairs to the PC

TBH, it's a pain not being able to copy the code, I simply typed the code, when you have done it a few times its easy, only the last bit changes anyway.

I always use my iPad, I have the same problem as you, not being arsed to fire up the computer.

When I upload pictures it takes me ages as I write down the BBC code by hand. Funnily enough the other day when I wanted to post a picture and it let me copy the code.

Yeah but the iPad distorted the image so it looks like a toy car!!!  1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

Day 4

Fitted new rear shoes, discs and pads.
Changed oil, oil filter and air filter (removed lower plastic scuttle panel and turbo pipe, what a !).
Sorted the leak - 'twas the jet come adrift inside the lamp. Blob of superglue fixed that back in place.
Fitted front and rear mudflaps.
Got a private plate assigned and swapped over.

Still to do:
Pollen filter and fuel filter. Had enough for today - somewhere locally one of the electricity phases has gone down resulting in loss of half of our electrics including our 3-phase single post hoist with my Freely halfway up in the air. Had to wind it down by hand. My arm's now killing me - it hasn't felt like that for years if you catch my drift!

I'll do the rest of the filters next week sometime as wifey wants the car for work.

And guess what? My duff key has started to work as it now locks AND unlocks the car - time and time again. Result! I'm going home now. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
