Would this be normal??

Ok been away with family and took the freelander (2007,diesel) So the load consisted of 4 people and a boot full ,also 3 mountain bikes on the back. At a steady 70 up the A1 only getting 32 mpg, is this acceptable? For some strange reason I expected a bit more. What could cause this, the car seemed to be better than this on fuel when we first got her (3 months ago)

I've only had mine a few days but that seems okay(ish) to me. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

32mpg with 4 up plus luggage plus 3 bikes at 70 mph with a 07 diesel is pretty good!

Winter fuel, cold temperatures, maybe against the wind. You will see better in the spring.

4 people, luggage and bikes on the back and you only get 32 mpg and ask is it normal.

What is normal? Everyone has a different driving style, you will see a marked difference in fuel economy between 65mph and 70 mph, the throttle position at 65mph with 1 person will be different than 65mph with 4 up, luggage and bikes on the back, which incidentally will induce a great deal of drag.

32 under those conditions is pretty darn good for a two tonne fully loaded car with virtually no aerodynamics to speak of.

so, acceptable yes Thumbs Up

Pretty reasonable figure I would say, the earlier models were a little less efficient when burning fuel compared to current models but I wouldn't complain at that fully loaded.

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

I got my 2007 HSE diesel auto in September and later that month I got 37mpg on the motorway cruising at 70ish Wink

That was two up, climate control on.

A couple of weeks ago I did a 3-up run on mainly open-country A-roads, cruising gently with light traffic and did about 34.5mpg.

Normal running around is about 29mpg.

Hope that helps.

The recent weather certainly hammers fuel consumption when the engine is cold, but I can't really judge yet whether it will improve on long runs in the summer.

were you using cruise control ? if so that would reduce your mpg.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does using cruise control reduce your mpg?

32 is good, you are close on 2.5 ton, with aerodynamics of a brick and you expect more Shocked

because it tries to maintain the set speed no matter what the conditions, accelerating up inclines, etc

I normally average about 42mpg on the motorway, but this drops to around 36 to 38mpg when using cruise control.

i agree too i get about 37 - 40 on a motorway journey w/o cc trip is 120 miles there and then i reset it. I still haven't found the best revs as it seems to be less revs isn't always better according to the trip computer i always cruise at 1900- 2100rpm i find this is good for my car but every car is different. When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

I have an 08 manual and driving like a complete nanny on A roads with lots of good long straights and no major inclines I get about 35 mpg and on a motorway with 3 up and light luggage only get about 37/38 mpg so with all that load with 32 mpg sounds fair. (GONE) FL2 2008 SE (manual) Santorini Black, the expensive one Sad
(LEFT WITH) 300tdi Defender 90 the cold, reliable & sensible one Smile
