Thanks for that Saskboy. F/L2 certainly ticks all my boxes in the important areas. When are you guys going to understand the advantages of Otto's compression technology? still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

2WD!

Reading the road test they say that the FL2 is basically a front wheel drive CUV unless the terrain demands 4wd.This cannot be right can it?Surely it's permanent 4wd.Any technical guys out there like to comment? Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

I understood that it is in permanet four wheel drive but that the split was 95% front 5% rear until conditions demanded otherwise.

I cannot now find a reference to this but am sure I read it somewhere.

Good overall review.
Most Canadians and Americans don't even know that Land Rover makes a small suv.
Straight to Honda/Acura or BMW dealer if their in the market for a CUV.
The Acura RDX is a good buy for the price but just add the basic options,
and your into the standard LR2 (Freelander 2) price range.

* A standard LR2 in North America is now HSE spec (leather/cold climate/19" etc.), Nav is the major option * .

F/L2 Starts off in 4WD and then for all intents and purposes reverts to Frt Wheel Drive if surface conditions allow then reverts to 4WD instantaneously? if dispraportionate Frt/Rr axle slip is detected. Why have the frictional drag of driving an axle which is doing nothing. After all some 'proper' 4x4s require you to manually select 4WD. F/L2s electronics do this for you without the clunk of forged gears fashioned in the Black Country forced together by an additional gearlever. Ah for the love of gearboxes before synchromesh was invented. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

PRICE

Look at the price of the FL2-$39950 about £20.000.We are being ripped off again.Mind you Jeep are even worse for ripping off customers- the Grand Cherokee is built in Austria and shipped to America and sold for half the price of UK models! Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Why would anybody pay those prices when they are cheaper elsewhere in Europe-is it the import taxes? Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Import taxes - yes Big Cry
Cars are much more expensive here, but it is possible to save a bit by importing yourself, but not many do this I think with new cars.
However it is possible to save considerably more on used cars. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
