internet security

Just a warning to all, another forum I have joined. the British farming forum, was hacked a few days ago, personal info and passwords of members were accessed, so just be careful on any forum/log in site.

membership of the BFF was moderated, you could not join immediately, In an attempt to keep hackers/junk mail and the odd banned ex-member out. but it was still attacked

The forum has only just restarted using a different forum software At work

It is wise to regularly change your log in password, very simple to do within the profile settings.
The only real info on here is an email address, there are no other personal details unless they are disclosed within a thread which is discouraged.
My credit card was used last week, 」1100, fortunately it is fraud protected and I have not lost out but haven't a clue were the info was gained from as it is heavily used for work expenses, I am always conscious of it and thought it was pretty secure but just reminds you that low life are everywhere.

Snap Taz....」1500 daily between Sunday and Wednesday this week with Wizz Air Hungary before Mastercard twigged that I couldn't be in two countries at once. That card has *never* left my sight in 4 years, and aside from iTunes and Amazon, the details are not stored anywhere. I'm covered, but that is hardly the point...these scumbags are getting more and more clever and sophisticated by the day! Foraging near Gaydon....

Interesting, mine was flights with Lufthansa.

We recently had a young voices concert in Manchester with many of the school children involved, my wife is the school administrator and was horrified when the organisers requested cheques with the bank card details to be clearly marked on the rear including the 3 digit CVV number Shocked very simple to then go online and have a field day.

Be careful of "helpful" shop assistants! the con is to have a smart phone recording on video just out of sight and when they get a customer they "helpfully" take the card to put it in the machine for you of course this is via the view of the recording phone and a quick flip over you have both sides of the card, talking to the customer prevents them from spotting this, and as said on the net thats all you need and its easy to get a cheap rental room as a delivery address, pay a month up front get loads of stuff delivered and dont go back to it. simples At only 5 cards a day and use it only 3 times to stop too much suspision the card company you can get 105 deliveries a week at say 」500 each on average thats 」52,500 and sell them brand new still in box for half price on ebay or amazon or such like and thats over 」26,000 a week as you can see from how it works you can see how easy it is for us all to be unwittenlly involved in this major scam.

If somebody has bought flights surely its traceable straight away? When booking flights do you not need to give the name on the passports and the passport number, which is then checked against your passport at check in?

You would have thought so! However, the 2nd of my 5 fraudulent transactions was to London Underground for 」1200...it's a form of money laundering to put a large amount of money on an Oyster card then close it a day later and get a refund to the account of your choice....been happening for years down there, so I'm sure it's a similar setup with the Airlines as well...you only need one of the gang on the "inside" after all. Scumbags. Foraging near Gaydon....

With airline tickets you buy and cancel almost immediatly as Badger says and you notice that the airlines mentioned are from the old eastern bloc and thier security may not be as tight as here especially when doing business within thier countrys borders, with some of them all you need is someone in a travel agent/bucket shop in on it to process the tickets/refund, for a small fee of course and just because the card holder is in this country dosn't mean that that is where the con is happening and it really is that simple.

Unnecessary quote removed

So I take it these countrys don't operate the same as the UK where if you want a refund it has to go back onto the same card that you made the purchase with in the first place?

If thats the case then I'd say that the credit card companies are partly to blame for allowing the cards to be used to make a purchase from a company who has a Censored refund policy.

There are other ways around it as well, (but best not to enlighten some people) used to be in a service Industry and some of the the "tricks" were unbelievable , suffice to say if I am paying by card I wait till the machine is in front of me , the amount is entered and use a tri-fold wallet to shield the keypad, and make sure no one is behind me , I remove the card from the machine not the vendor.(if you check your card some assistants / machines can be very rough with cards scratches and bend/ flex card to see the number, open to cloning only takes a second to double swipe a card and bam gone )

Lots of other things but best advise (if you can )check all accounts daily especially credit card accounts !!

credit card safe limit

In response to above, large fraudulent loss on credit cards..
I don't know if this has been suggested before but I have one specific credit card with a 」500 limit which I use for internet transactions, payment in unfamiliar shops / petrol stations etc.
Any prob's the most you can be out of pocket is 」500 until bank sorts it out..
I appreciate your main cards will generally have substantial limit on it and can always be vulnerable to fraud, but using a low limit card for small open purchases does give me some peace of mind...I never give debit card details unless absolutely necessary and only to known reputable business's.. lucan400

Even chip and pin is dodgy, lots of these devices have been found nationwide recently stealing card details, it plugs inline to the CPU, without the shop owners even knowing
