Windscreen Defrost, missed a bit.

Is this normal or is part of my heated windscreen not working properly?

no this is not normal, the whole screen should defrost.

looks like some of the elements are not working, is it the original windscreen ?

I suspect not, I changed the battery at the weekend and found a bit of glass in the battery tray so it may have been replaced at some point.

Pulled the fuses, they are fine. I only got it less than a month ago so I have sent the previous owner an email to see if the screen was replaced and if so, when and who did it. Never know, replacement might still be under warranty.

Could be if youre lucky, but knowing the crafty devils the warranty only applied to the owner who had it replaced and is as they say now "non transferable" Rolling Eyes

Factory fit Land Rover windscreens are made by either Pilkington (001585) or Fuyao (001566) the number in brackets represents the approval marking in the bottom LH corner of the screen.

I bought my FL2 in the summer so first discovered half the screen not heating months later. It was an "approved used" but apparently the windscreen is not a warranty part. The dealer (Gordon Lamb) were good about it and paid for a replacement to be fitted at my local dealer (by Autoglass). This replacement did not work properly either, so a second one was fitted (presumably at Autoglasses expense?) and this one finally worked fine.
On mine the split between the two elements is dead centre so it looks like you've got a broken element in the middle of one side. They are very expensive if you have to pay so I agree your best bet is to contact the former owner and see if they have any guarantee that could be used.
Best of luck!

I know of a small one man band Windscreen company near me who's business is struggling as insurance companies only want to deal with the big boys, he tells me that the big boys are ripping off the insurance companies by inflating the prices alarmingly, they then pass that onto us, he can supply and fit a screen for the vans at work for under £200 including fitting and vat, the same screen through the insurance company is over £600, and he gets his screens from the same place as the big boys.

Prevoious owner was good enough to get back to me, has no idea where the piece of glass in the battery tray came from ,windscreen was never replaced. Only thing that was done was a stone chip repair, is it possible that would have affected it ?

It is possible that the stone chip itself damaged the element, the wires are very fine, it is also possible that the repair has damaged the wires, proving that would be nigh on impossible though.

I would leave it until end of year, it might have broken by then and require a replacement

I'm happy enough with it as it is to be honest, never had a heated windscreen before and consider it a bit of a luxury but not essential, so if the heating failed completely I wouldn't replace the screen over it. When looking for a Freelander though I wouldn't have considered one without the Winter Pack purely because of the heated washer jets, which I do consider essential and really should have been standard.

Just had a close look at the windscreen, the stone chip repair is right about on the line in the photograph. Guess its the culprit.
