Romania 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Tonga Green
My 2008 TD4 Auto - Tonga Green

Hello guys,
I want to show you my FL2.
I bought it from Berlin, Germany for a quite good price in my opinion. It's main downside is that the engine is not working.
Right now I am looking for a facelift front bumper and of course, a new engine, which is very hard to find so I am still looking for one.
The car is in service right now and it's waiting it's engine.
Here are some photos with the car. I will post some others after I will take care properly of this car, some repainting and others.

Back there you can see a pile of engine parts.

To do list:
-New engine - DONE!
-Facelift front bumper - DONE!
-Repaint all the scratched areas - DONE! full body spray
-Paint in body color the door handles, sprinkles, mirrors and washers - DONE!
-Have the steering wheel re-trimmed in leather - DONE!
-New left-side tailight. I don't know why, but it haves a lot of scratches
-Find a middle headrest(last photo)
-Clear side lamps - DONE!
-Have to do something with that "hole" in the middle of the dasboard. I saw some quite interesting ideas on this forum. Most of them are quite expensive, but I think it's well worth the price

"Maybe" list:
-Spoiler - DONE!
-Mudflaps - DONE!
-New facelift LR badges
-An Exhaust Finisher
-Rear Boot Handle - DONE!
-Facelift headlights/tailights/third brake light
-Console storage box(HSE premium pack)
-Interior trim(I really like the wood-effect one, but any other will do just fine)
-Piano black door grab handles - DONE!
-Steering wheel trim - DONE!
-2013MY Front Fog surrounds
-Bumper splash guards - DONE!
-New rims. But this is quite unlikely considering the price of new tyres and the minus in comfort. But if the rims are at low price... who knows? - DONE!
And some other stuff that doesn't come into my mind right now.

If I can find a dismantled car, I could do alot from those two lists. Quite hard to find one here, especially a facelift model.
In march I will be in Germany. I think there are some cars there, just have to do my homework and find them.

The engine haves the cylinder head ehm... kaput. Same goes for piston number 1. And cylinder nr. 2 and 3 have a bit of rust, wich is quite worrying. Here you can find photos and details about this problem.

As you probably read in that topic, I found a Peugeot 4007, 2.2hdi engine. Still I am not sure if the parts will match(the engine block and cylinder head). Also 1500euros are quite a lot for a non-complete engine. I still have to look for more options. I know that this engine, the DW12TED4, is a quite popular engine. Ford, Citroen, Peugeot and others are using it, but I don't know which parts match with the FL2 and which don't.

All comments/oppinions/suggestions/questions are welcomed. '13 -LR Freelander 2, 2.2L TD4, 160cp
'12 -Ford Focus 3, 2.0L Duratorq TDCi, 140cp
'07 -Ford Focus 2, 1.6L Duratorq TDCi, 90cp
'06 -VW Passat, 2.5L V6 TDI 4motion, 150cp
'01 -VW Passat, 2.5L V6 TDI, 150cp
'01 -VW Bora, 1.6L, 101cp
'01 -Ford Focus 1, 1.6L Zetec-SE, 101cp
'97 -Ford Escort, 1.6L EFi CVH, 105cp

And a lot of Dacia's Very Happy

I don't know a lot about it's history.
When it was new, the car was bought from Italy, but it's first owner was german, so the car was mostly used in Germany.
As from what I can see, I think the car was well looked after. I think that the car got in a not so nice condition once it had arrived at the Berlin dealer. It is obvious that someone tried to fix it, as the engine was taken apart, but nothing was done. And they had done such a great job, that now 2 cylinders have rust spots.
Speaking about the engine, today I found a complete FL2 engine. He is asking 2400euros for it. I am still looking for other options. Right now I try to see if the Peugeot 4007 engine block is the same with the Freelander one.

The photos make the car look in a worser state than it actually is.
Once I find an engine, I will clean the car inside-out. After that some paint, new bumper, the rest will come with time.
I want to do something similar to what Mav71 has done, really nice looking car, used only good-looking parts, not too flashy, not too boring.

I bought the Peugeot engine, for 1500euros. It arrived on friday and I was so excited when I first saw it. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S BRAND NEW !!! Too bad I don't have some photos of it.
Now looking back, I feel bad that I didn't bought the complete engine, as it is in such a good condition.

On monday the old engine will be out of the car and hopefully everything will fit just fine.
If not, I found a 100k Freelander2 complete engine for 1800euros.

Fingers crossed, I can't wait to drive the car.

I almost forgot, I bought a facelift front bumper for 60pounds. Not bad in my opinion, this week it will arrive and I think that by friday the car will have the new engine, new bumper, new paint...

Can't wait !

Today's report:

1. The old engine was removed from the car.

2. The old engine is taken apart and cleaned. The gearbox is also cleaned and the oil is changed.
Interesting thing: The gearbox is the same as the one used in the Ford Kuga.

3. The new Peugeot heart. Say hello to Iulica Razz

Just waiting. So sad to see it like this.

PS: Sorry for the bad photos. I was in a hurry and the phone camera didn't helped me.

Just to give you a summary on what I've done on the car.

The old turbo was faulty(something wrong with the electrical part). The Peugeot turbo was way bigger than the FL one, so I had to buy a new turbo. A new intake manifold was needed, as the old one had a crack. I also had to get a new EGR valve. The Peugeot manifold and EGR were just fine. After all of this I finally started the engine. I had a ~70km trip, and I was surprised by the confort of the car. One thing I totally didn't like was the sound system, wich is... let's just say bad.

At the service, I wanted to give a little atention to the bodywork. Instead, I was offered a very good price for a full body spray. Thumbs Up

Here you have the long story + more photos.

Latest mods:

Today I just received the clear side repeaters. 14.50£ +3£ shipping to RO. A 5min. job, they make the care look more modern.
Yesterday, the Evoque 18" wheels finally came. 730£ +50£ shipping in the UK +50€ shipping to RO for new wheels, fitted with brand new tyres. I can't wait to see them on the car.

Got the rear spoiler 75£ and mud flaps 35£ +6.50£ shipping in the UK. When I will paint the spoiler, I want to paint the interior door handles in piano black.
Also managed to get the wood interior finish. Glove box + the part under the steering wheel + hood and engine insulations + jack kit(didn't had one) + lighter = 230€
Had to get the insulations as the old ones where in a pretty bad shape and I did not fit them. The car is quite noisy, so I had to get those.

I really want to fit a tablet in the cubby box. The Google Nexus 7 seems to me like a best buy for a 7" tablet, but at 198.5mm I don't think it will fit. Someone in this forum said that the max size of a tablet must be 188mm. Any suggestions will be highly apreciated.

Down on this page you have 3 small photos.
Right now the car is at the garage where the spoiler, mud flaps and new wheels are being fitted. Also I got the facelifted tailgate handle. Very Happy On top of that the interior door handles and the steering wheel controls got painted in piano black. All the other interior pieces will arrive sometime next week from Poland.

Ah, did I mentioned that the intercooler haves a crack? Another "unexpected" thing.

Great job. Could you post some larger pics with the facelift bumper installed. Always wondered how "Tonga green" would look with the upgrade.

I've uploaded my gallery with some pictures. There you can see the re-trimmed steering wheel, the painted interior handles/controls and all the accesories fitted.

Right now I want to install the 2013MY Fog lamp bezels which I just bought from Dan(Duckworth) and the interior wood parts. Also I decided to get the Freelander PD20 tablet, which will go in the "cubby" hole. I just have to figure out how to power it and how to connect it to the audio system.
