New Windscreen now fitted

They arrived at about 10am Friday morning and although still very cold it was dry so my new windscreen was fitted.

An hour later it was all done but I could not drive it for about a hour to let the adhesive go off fully.

Photos of the fitting are in my gallery.

Interesting to watch the fitting especially to see the black plastic valance under the windscreen at top of engine bay come out and go back in again.

When it gets warmer I will be removing this again to clear the two years worth of debris, leaves and pine tree needles, that is under it and can't escape through the drainage channels.

If any of you park up under trees it may be worth checking this also.

Just need to avoid all the flying stones now.

Got a friend who's a windscreen fitter. He told me that pattern part heated windscreen elements do not last as long as original ones and that if you have a LR one fitted at the time of breakage, hold out to have a like-for-like replacement. Insurance companies dont like it but hold your ground - the squeeky wheel gets the oil!

I was told that the one fitted was made by Pilkingtons who make them for LR and that they are the same other than not having LR printed on them.

Would have thought there would be no difference but who knows?

It is a bit late for me but others should take note.

No, not too late, I forgot to add, he said exactly the same thing about Pilkingtons so all good. You're safe! Very Happy

Steve D you got me wondering about this so I have been out to my motor to check what its says on the screen.

It is not a Pilkingtons screen but one made by NORDGLASS.

Not happy about this and will be making some phone calls first thing Monday.

Thanks Steve D as I would not have noticed without your posting. When I initially booked them I was told it was going to be a Pilkingtons screen and I had no reason to believe that that wasn't what they fitted.

I thought that the windscreen glass on Freelander was Fuyao these days, not Pilkington Question

I might be seeing my mate tomorrow. If I do, I'll ask him about nordglass and let you know. The glass is not the problem, it's the heating element. I remember him telling me that he knew from experience because he fitted a non OE heated screen to his wife's car (whch he got via a 'five finger discount' Wink from his firm) and the element burned out in just over a year. Said he'd seen it on others too. The conversation only came up because another friend who was with us commented that the heated screen he had fitted to his Discovery just over a year ago was not working in places.

Thanks for that..

I use the heated front screen a lot living up here on the Pennines and just above the local snow line.

Who would have thought just having a simple windscreen replacement could cause so much of a problem?

One good reason to have insurance via Land Rover as when my windscreen cracked recently I was told that LRI would ensure it was a Land Rover screen that was fitted.
