Hello everybody,
I have an S spec Freelander2 and I want to get rid of the dasboard hole.
I found an original LR navigation system, on a Freelander2 HSE and I am not sure if it will work on my S Freelander.

I am mostly concerned about the electronics, if everything will fit. Also what about the signal? '13 -LR Freelander 2, 2.2L TD4, 160cp

I have the LR Nav system on my HSE and it's not very good.
There are a number of threads about fitting a tom-tom or garmin in the hole and this seems to be a much better and cheaper solution.
Save your money and don't get the LR system!!

Hi agree with pb1008 - although I think its not so bad its definitely not worth the time,work and possible problems with retrofitting - get some TomTom for easier life

In my opinion, you can drop the idea of filling the gap with the original navi system.
From what I've saw in your pictures in My Freelander section, you have the standard "low line" (LR designation) audio system.
The LR navi system requires the "hi line" audio system to be installed. This because the informations and audio data are exchanged over the MOST bus (an optical bus) that doesn't exist in your case. You have a standard head unit that has all the necessary devices (radio, cd, amplifier, etc) inside. The hi line system is modular. Radio and CD on the head unit, amplifier in the boot, navi on the dash, navi DVD under the passenger seat, etc. All interconnected over this optical bus.
So, if you want the original navi, you should also get the other audio system with all that implies - head unit, audio amplifier, navi display, navi DVD unit, optical wiring, etc, etc.
Not to mention that you should modify several things with the dealer tools in the CCF (car configuration file) in order to reflect the changes. Don't know if the dealer is willing to do this and, why not saying, if he's done this before...
So, as others have said, use another option. For example buy a 7" android tablet that can fit behind the dash and you'll have a lot more options. Even net if you get one with an 3G integrated module.

As an owner of an OEM GPS.... I can say its not that great..... it fills the hole but that's about it.

IIRC some of the Aussie boys have the same kind of system and one or two of them have put in an after market double din system, radio, cd, GPS dvd, bluetooth, aux, smartphone connections,USB and rear view camera options, as some have said the LR system isn't as bad as some make out but is not worth the effort.

So this means that I can't upgrade the audio system? I was considering getting the Alpine audio system from the HSE(I think it's the 4.1) and fit it in my Freelander.

As for the navi, from what you guys told me, is not worth it. I will see what is the best option, a tablet, maybe a gps.

As I've said, if you get ALL the items and then recode the CCF, it might work...
I don't know anybody that made such a conversion...
Get the electrical diagrams from the technical section and grasp a little the differences and the extent of the work...
