There is an electric pump inside the tank that draws fuel from one/inactive "saddle" of the tank and pumps it in the other/active one. By active side I mean the side from where the fuel is draw/lifted by the main/lift pump.

It's not getting to -15 or so at some point in the night for example, and just warming up in the morning? If the tank is low the fuel will wax quicker if it gets really cold at any point. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Symptoms appear even if over the night the temperature doesn't varies to much. And there shouldn't be any diesel waxing at about 1-2 Celsius. It's true that the engine starts harder if the outside temperature it's lower but these symptoms are dependant of the quantity of the fuel in the tank. |

My assumption about tank fuel pump is based on the bellow statement...
If the tank fuel pump doesn't bring the fuel from the inactive side in the "pick-up" side, then, the "pick-up" side gets emptied much quicker even if in the other side is fuel and the fuel indicator is showing that. Then the start became harder and harder, because air could be drawn from the emptied side. Check for operation/"buzzing" from the tank fuel pump while the engine is running. |
