United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

You make a fair point flylr. But based on how many freelander 2's have been built and based this against cars that have been faulty. The percentage will be in low single figures. Forums are often used as a stage for people who are not happy about things and find answers. Which is fair enough.

Your right about the maps limiting torque in lower gears, most reputable re-mappers take this into account.

The point I am making, is that you have "suggested" all manual Freelander 2's are not up to the job regarding clutches/gearbox's and DMF's and that they should not be messed with.

This is clearly not the case, and where I sympathise with the issues you have been suffering, don't tar all Freelander 2 manual's with the same brush. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Agree that forum responses are not always a fair representation, but for dealers to make an admission of an 'issue' does add some weight. I guess my suggestion all FL2s have clutch issues is as qualified as yours saying people are unlikely to have issues with the clutch after the remap. We may be equally guilty Smile (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc

Until 'something' happens, nothing has happened and so the perceived 'risk' is imaginary. If a risk assessment (read as 'earthquakes', 'acts of God', 'it could be you' etc) is the deciding factor for some people, that a professional remap is the act which caused their car to be visited by demons, then they have some redress in the form of a warranty and a civil court claim, if necessary. That's why its essential to use reputable companies; Superchips being one .

I take your point, and worth mentioning I have extensive experience with remaps and modified cars - well at least before I realised I was too old and became all sensible and stopped playing with silly horsepower cars.

I would still consider remapping certain vehicles once out of warranty - but not all. And a manual Freelander is one I would choose not to. Whats the saying.. "You pays your money and you takes your chances" or something like that. Agree a reputable firm with extensive experience remapping your make/model of vehicle is essential should you decide to take your chance. (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc

My comments are not directed at any particular remap specialist.

Simply put:
The question is - does increasing the power and particularly torque to the drivetrain of any vehicle increase the load on the drivetrain components? Logic says most likely - so the next question is - are the components more likely to fail or wear at a faster rate under the increased load/stress. Logic says most likely. Which brings us back to the potential effects of a remap, particularly where the torque is increased at low rpm or the curve altered to peak much sooner.

Draw your own conclusion and make your own decision. Smile

Finally, the acceptance of remaps by insurance companies is not relevant. They don't pay out for mechanical repairs to your car.

In closing, can I just say again that in principal I am not against remaps. I just think people going ahead with one should be aware of the POTENTIAL risks. And as an aside, I am very pleased that you are happy with your remap and that you have no issues. I sincerely hope that the same rings true for everyone who takes the plunge. Interesting debate.
A few weeks ago I got a bluefin from superchip in Buckingham, they have £80 off at the mo.
I did the remap in their car park as the very helpful chap said he would sort the new map via the Internet for me, this way I could try it it on the way home.
So easy to do and very pleased with the results, I was looking for better fuel economy and extra power when I needed it, the MPG has gone from avg 32mpg to 36mpg Thumbs Up although that is according to the onboard computer, I am in the middle of doing a separate test using the iPhone app 'Road Trip' which I highly recommend.
The extra power is great and it feels really responsive now and much smoother.
Cost £320, normally £399.
Claimed increase is 33bhp so takes mine to 190bho
Torque is increased by 88.
And I have the std map so I can put it back on if needed or update it in the event of a dealer over right for free.

When my clutch and flywheel fell out at 50000 the dealer said it was a well known problem on manuals and the replacements were of improved design, thats what they said.
Reading between the lines that means the original isnt very good.
