Can Opener - Your recommendations sought

Mrs Freedieselauto is frustrated (no not in that way!) that she cannot find a tin opener that actually works well and is reliable. I keep bringing home various offerings which are not up to standard and are rapidly dispatched to the great God of recycling. She has resorted to using one her grandfather used on the Somme but it is lethal and I wish to avoid amputating any more fingers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I spend all my savings on can openers!

Not one of the most exciting posts but you could make Mrs Freedieselauto very happy. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, including that from "Mr Idle" which has a certain appeal. Mrs Freedieselauto could hardly sleep in anticipation of your replies. She got very excited about the professional job but thought she would have to embark on a new career in opening cans to justify the investment. We tried a Culinaire but it only survived only a short time in the hands of Mrs F, so you obviously have a good-un.

So, unless there are any further suggestions, it looks like the Stellar is the next one to try.

Further suggestions welcome. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

You could put the can in a plastic bag and drive your Freelander over it?
We did that camping one year, it does open it.
