Should my Satnav screen need time to warm up?

Hi
MY 2007, SE.
I have noticed that when starting from cold/beginning of the day, the satnav screen is really dark, almost to the point were I can't see it.
I have tried turning off 'auto brightness' and this does help a bit but it is still dull and gets brighter over 15 mins ish.

Is this normal?

Same here, and I have read others saying this as well.
Really bright at night as well once it has truly warmed up.

The screens contain liquid, it is quite normal for these to appear sluggish until warm.

Very disappointed with this seemingly unfixable glitch; sitting in the freezing cold wanting to put the requirements in - so you can get going to warm everything up! Now - Black 2012 FR2 SD4 XS really miss the RRS

Try going into the menu/settings & turning off the 'auto brightness' setting & see if that helps. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

It's not an unfixable glitch, it's a fact of life with liquid displays, your not alone in your disappointment but its not Land Rover's fault, as screens become better and different technology is used things will improve, give it a few weeks will also help as the sun swings back our way.

I like your poke it, poke it philosophy, and used that on my Defenders way back in the 60's, but mucking about with all this touchscreen / electronic / haha now you've wrecked it and can't go back / things makes me very hesitant Smile Now - Black 2012 FR2 SD4 XS really miss the RRS

How many times have you got lost on the island, just spotted your location?
A Sat Nav on the Isle of Man strikes me as being about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike Laughing

It is an issue though in all seriousness and newer screens, although more expensive, will make there way into vehicles albeit not very quickly.

Just come back from holiday, but there are places on the Isle of Man that most are afraid to visit so have never been. In-breeding, Vikings who still don't know the invasion is over, even the satnav lady is fearful of mentioning some locations Shocked Now - Black 2012 FR2 SD4 XS really miss the RRS

Years ago I had a hire car waiting at the airport, took my TomTom with me, turned it on and got an outline of the island, no roads just the outline Laughing

And expensive to go over, went over about 15 years ago, it's cheaper to go to Ireland and its twice as far, it's what you get when the markets cornered. We used to sail from Heysham on a Sunday night it was £700 return for a small van Shocked

Its the type of backlight used on the screen ... essentially its a little flourescent tube ... so it takes time to warm up to full brightness ( just in the same way that the energy saver bulbs take time to warm up ... especially if they are really cold or used outside. )

Plus as also said the LCD matrix is sliggish when cold too.

The biggest difference would come from using LED backlighting. It would be much brighter from the moment it switches on.

To be honest, I think the whole unit in mine is a dissapointment ... just dont find ituseful and turn if off most of the time.
