Rough On Start-Up

Hi Guys

My 2007 model sounds like a tractor on initial start up. It starts no problem and after less than a minute it ticks over sweetly.
The car is regularly serviced and has no real problems. The thing which drew it to my attention was using company FL2 which is a 2009 and sounded and felt better on start up.
Is this normal ?

Thanks guys

Ours sounds rough as chuff for about 15 seconds, sounds normal until the oil get around all the engine when it's clap cold.

However, ours is a 2009 so not sure if yours is worse Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Mine was the same before replacing the glow plugs, still a bit rough in the for the first few revs but settles much quicker, before they were changed felt like it was going to stall when I blipped the throttle for the first few mins.

Glow plugs

Hi,
ive clicked on as watching to see what the first replies were.

Failed Glow Plugs must be first on the list and they are so cheap to replace. pity about the time it takes as they are well hidden!

Yesterday I added a new post on changing Glow Plugs where I have detailed how to change them with minimal dismantling if you are adept at mechanics and given the link to another superb post detailing changing them if you are lesser experienced.

I see there are questions on oil getting around, are you using the correct viscosity specified oil that meets the Ford criteria? if not then a quick change of oil and filter is strongly recommended to avoid damaging the hydraulic lifters / valves, (thick oil can jack them up too high).

They are a cheep part but pricy labor wise as you say. One thing to watch out for if your going to do it yourself is they are known for seizing in the block, if that happens then you could be in trouble...

Also worth noting, my local dealer came in cheaper than the local independents, and the dealer washed if, provided my with courtesy car and dropped if off and picked it up...
