We used to have an old power hacksaw at work, that would be your best bet. Biggest thing I cut with it was a 200 mm diameter steel mount from a small hydraulic crane we put on a trailer. That one was 40 years old, and took 45 mins straight to cut through but did a lovely job. You can still get them now. Not sure about petrol powered though.

Would a small generator be a better solution?

A Stihl saw would spin too quick for that amount of steel I'd say, would get too hot unless you're going to add coolant. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Oxyacetylene!

You'll be there days with a Stihl saw! Although I'd say that's your only other option. Presumably you need to cut twice to get a section out? Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

it was use to make a bridge into a field but i have replaced it with a bigger diameter plastic one, so i need to cut it in half to fit it on a trailer to take it for scrap

Oxyacetylene would be perfect but i don't have one (not sure if i could hire or not) i tried a plasma cutter but that was slow and did not cut all the way (that was run of a generator) 1995 P38 now dead

1000 watt genny will not start a 9in grinder, any less than 9 inch will not cot the pipe, even 9 inch will struggle.

the pipe intact will be valuable for farmers etc wanting to build a bridge of their own etc,, try in on ebay, buyer collects, farmer buyer will come with loader and lift it out job done.

Id buy it if you were closer.

or hire a large mini digger yourself and lift it out At work

Thank god for that, enough tailbacks with the bad weather drivers let alone a tractor/trailer.

Ring the fire brigade, tell them your dog or something is stuck inside Rolling with laughter

I'd think a Sthil saw would cut through but you'll need some good quality blades.

I borrowed a mates stihl to cut up scrap about a year ago, like a knife through butter, Also much safer than 9" grinder ,no disc snatching or jumping and you stand nearly 2ft further from away the sharp wizzy bits. At work
