Diagnostic equipment

Did you saw this?
https://www.freel2.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11383/VCI.pdf
What do you think?

.... As required under EURO-5 vehicle compliance standards the IDS/SDD Diagnostic System is capable of supporting additional VCI devices ....

This mean that with a much lower price one can buy a vehicle communication interface that will allow to diagnose our cars. The software is available for download. It has a password protected entry, for dealers and/or registered users, for online support, but also has a password for using it offline.

Indeed, it hasn't all the options that some aftermarket tools offer, but, as seen in the document, for as low as GBP225 you can diagnose any model of Land Rover and/or Jaguar, not matter its VIN. Just like the dealer tools...

Worth investigating, in my opinion...

Glad to see that LR "are pleased to announce" that they are complying with Euro-5 standards for diagnostics.
So that anyone who whishes to work on thier own vehicles can do so without paying dealer prices for a diagnostics check.
Just goes to show that EC legislation can be useful, sometimes.

Personally will be buying a Hawkeye as soon as SWMBO will let me - not becauseI think that the car is unreliable, just because I am nosey, and like to know whats going on under the bonnet.
Must admit the Idea of an approved unit for £225 does sound interesting though. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Go to TOPIx website and select a model.
Then go to Diagnostics -> Links -> Software.
Also on Diagnostics -> Links -> Hardware section you'll be redirected to SPX website where you can find the prices for hardware too.

I have several of them listed in that PDF and they work as intended providing you have the username and password subscription on Topix.

THe latest SDD132 software needs you to enter your valid password on every start up and if not it deactivates the software after 24hrs.

As said, though a dealer tool is can be limited and very slow sometimes Censored

Thanks Pete,I see from your user name that you may be using the tool professionally.
From the info PDF it appears the software is orientated towards being used on a Toughbook. Will the software work on other LT,s.
I have registered on Topix but have not purchased a subscription yet.Is there any way to see what can be done with the software before purchasing a subscription?.As an example I am fitting a towbar and would like to activate the FL system to recognise the presence of the towbar electrics.

I have a reasonable amount of experience using Blackbox Msv on my P38 and would like similar capabilities on the Freelander.
Cheers
John

HI

It will work on Windows XP SP2 on any machine really, it does work on other varients of windows but can cause problems, but it does not have any demo facilitys.

it will activate a tow bar no problem.

So whilst the hardware may be relatively cheap, it still needs a 24hr-ly check on its subscription ... which I think for topix is in the region of £10 per day???

Doesn't sound so cheap after that ... or have i got it wrong?

You are correct, its about £700+vat a year. or on a pay as you basis daily. not the best option for a single user car.

You cant enable with the standard factory SDD software xenon healidghts as this was not a confgurable option from the factory. soon it may be possibile with some special AS-BUILT files but with the software in standard format its a no no.
