What Car? readers rate MY13

A few What Car? readers rate the MY13. They gave mostly positive reviews, and it gave me a chance to see the Mauritious Blue. Smile

It looks great in Mauritius blue. Shocked
As I said before, I prefer the Freelander than the Evoque. Yuri

When I bought my Freelander back in July, I looked at the Evoque but I didn't like the sloped down back and how low it was.

I'm surprised that the Mauritius looks nice on the Freelander. Shocked

Maybe my next Freelander will be in Mauritius or Firenze.

New blue?

I have had a courtesy car for a week. It's a XS TD4 in a new blue, so i guess it may be the Mauritius colour mentioned. There are some new things to get used to, but you quickly adapt. The TR knob has gone, now a row of buttons.
. The little pull up switch for the handbrake is effective, you can push it forwards to release, or just drive away, and it goes off anyway. Tacho and speedo changed sides, and lots of information displayed around them. The "smart" key fob remains in your pocket, so no docking. Just dip the clutch and press the button, there is a noticeable delay with recent cold mornings, and the heater icon is displayed, then it starts ok. I like the l.e.d front running lights, very bright, but dim down and become just large side lamps when light switch on. I should get my own car back tomorrow, hopefully the air bag saga will be at an end. From my brief experience, the 2013 model is a nicely updated and improved motor. Smile

To be honest, when the MY13 was released I wasn't keen. (Partly because I had just bought an MY11 Rolling Eyes ) but now it has grown on me. Hopefully I will be able to get another Freelander in 4-5 years, whether it will be a Freelander 2 or the Freelander 3 who knows. One thing I am not keen on is the Electronic handbrake, personally I prefer a normal one. My old 2008 Audi A4 Avant had one and it was a pain to use, but luckily it was an Auto so I rarely used it.

I hope everything is ok with your car Thumbs Up

Chris

I had a RR Sport as a courtesy car a few months ago which had the EPB. I really liked it, very easy to use and because it releases automatically as you start to drive off a real boon to hill starts.

We had the EPB on our Disco 3 which was a good system that I did think the Freelander would benefit from.
A good system I used on a 7 series is the 'auto EPB' which is a setting that allows the handbrake to engage automatically, for example in stop start traffic when you stop meaning you don't have to keep flicking the switch, or keep your foot on the brake.

Not such a fan of the TR dual being replaced by buttons, it struck a nice balance between being a pleasurable, almost tonka toy dial but kept an upmarket feel. You could put a picture of that dial anywhere and people would recognise it as LR. The latest update is just diluting the brand. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I like the blue but like my white one I think it needs the black trim on the bottom of the doors and rear bumper you get on the td4's I think colour coding works well on the darker colour's and with all the black tar spots I keep claying off I'm glad mines not painted right to the bottom but the blue works for me . Thumbs Up
