My 07 GS has auto wipers with very variable sensitivity. Damn things will thrash around with the odd drop or sweep slowly across the screen during a downpour. Evil or Very Mad

There working normally then Thumbs Up

My do that on occasions and other times behave impeccably, someone mentioned they are linked to the light sensor so that may be part of the erratic behaviour. It's a very small sensor that works by some sort of reflectance I think?
Maybe Pegleg can enlighten us.

Correct Taz.
It's done through optics. Beams of IF light are emitted by a series of pulses and are 'bounced' back to the sensor. Should water droplets appear on the screen, then some of these beams will be reflected away. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I think VM's should consider a 'latching' switch for auto wipers much as rear fog. ie, once ignition is switched off, the feature reverts back to '0' or 'off' condition. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

They have that on the works van, the Auto Wipers have to be re-applied in the morning, could be on a time delay as it is only first thing that you have to turn them on again, but doesn't affect the Auto Lights, they work as normal.

The auto wipers on my BM was a push button and turned off after every ignition reset. Used to infuriate me but now in hindsight I see it as a good thing...

I'm off early doors in the morning (middle of the night) and I know for sure they are on auto.. Must remember to switch off before starting! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

No, Rear Fogs should be on a speed related switch say above 45mph they cannot be on, Censored off with Censored that go past you at 80 plus with rear fogs on as if someone is really going to rear end them at that speed, how they still feel its safe to to that speed yet visibility is poor that they need Rear Fogs.

Dont get me started on people who use rear fogs when visibility is down to a mere 1mile.

rear fogs should
A. be worked from a light sensor to turn them off as soon as darkness aproaches
B. be turned off by a sensor that detects a car within 50 ft behind you as the driver will have seen you by now and doesnt want a big red dot burnt into his retina

RRS has both these sensors they come with a special options pack called a brain, funnily this option never seems to work for Mrs G Whistle At work

And let's not forget the Censored who have them on in town, so they sit at the traffic lights, Foot on the Brake and Rear Fogs On Censored

Special options pack pack not required with Freelanders, brain comes as standard, only when a fault develps do owners leave the fold and buy RRS Rolling Eyes

As for VM's Evil or Very Mad

Which Eurobeurk decided all that was needed was fairy lights on the front, in bad weather we now have a band of smug owners, LR ones too, thinking they are safe as they have the equivalent of a light sabre in the form of ultra bright led's but Censored all lit at the rear. Where are the plod? probably having a brew as its too foggy to go out and heeding their own advice not to travel unless absolutely necessary Twisted Evil

After parking the car I leave the wiper lever in service mode by pressing the lever and holding depressed for 2 seconds right after engin switch-off. In the morning I put the windscreen heating on and wipers are de-iced together with the windscreen. Upon driving-off I press the wiper lever and wipers return into the normal position Wink
