4x4 Reliability

The Telegraph has used the forecast bad weather as an excuse to publish an item listing the ten most reliable 4x4s, based on Warranty Direct's figures. The FL2 comes a very creditable 6th, beaten only by two Subarus, the Jimny, and two Hondas! Further, it was the only European car in the top 10, with the vast majority being Japanese.

It's not clear exactly what the criteria for inclusion were, but however you look at it that's a damn good result.

The full list is here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/pictur...-snow.html

N.B. The article shows a picture of an FL1, but the date range (2006 onwards) makes it clear that it's only the FL2 they're including.

Well done little Landy

Its good that some credit is being given to the Freelander 2 for it impressive reliability record - all too often the dismal showing of Landrover vehicles on surveys of motoring costs and reliability makes depressing reading. Hopefully someone in the Landrover empire will eventually tire of hogging the worst position propping up all these adverse surveys and direct a smidgen more corporate effort into improving the reliability of the rest of the range - particularly the electronic/electrical gremlins.
Reliability in bad weather is more than a matter of not breaking down of course. Good snow capability, wading depth, sensible tyres, good ground clearance, traction control etc are all key features of the Frreelander 2 and many of the other 4x4s on the market are not much better than saloon cars on ice or snow as they have hopeless tyres and poor traction application systems. The Freelander 2 is just about the best car one could hope to be in when driving in adverse weather - a Disco 4 is of course more capable but then again it is far heavier and bigger which can work against it at times.
Lets hope more good news comes though for Landrover - great that sales worldwide are holding up.
Robin

When i was getting my car serviced, the guy at the dealer told me that the Freelander 2 was LR's most reliable car.

I dont have a problem with LR reliability.
We've had 3 Discos (200,300,TD5) and 3 FL1 and 2 FL2 and can honestly say Ive not a had a major reliability issue with any of them and none ever leyt me down on a journey. The Discos were all 2nd hand but the FLs were all new. Sure things wore out; glow plugs and diff oil seals were replaced by self on the Discos. The TD5 develpoed a small rad leak but that was easily exchanged. The FL2s have been utterly reliable and both are going strong. Perhaps Ive just been lucky.

Was it the JD Power survey a few months ago that said the Freelander was terrible for reliability?!?

It should be reliable, there's no fancy silly gadgets like full TFT screens for the dash, computer controlled mascara application etc Rolling Eyes Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
