Help! - Broken down!

Everything was well yesterday with the car. I also swap the key fobs regularly to keep them charged. This morning, I put the fob in and it would not disengage the steering lock or start the car. Same with the spare fob.

It will allow things to fire up so that the sat nav comes on, the fan blowers work and I can put it in drive etc but no glow plugs and so on. It will not start.

I called LR assist and they are due at approx 12:30pm. Any thoughts whilst I am waiting? 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Could be a faulty brake pedal switch? If the car doesn't think you have your foot in the brake might not start? Freelander 2, 2014 Dynamic SD4 Santorini Black

Hmm... If that was the case, why would it still allow me to put it in D etc?

Hope it's something they can sort quickly. I have been wanting it to snow so knowing my luck it will have to go in and rather than a Land Rover, I will get a Ford Focus! 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

He has arrived and is struggling to find the cause. Possibly dashboard issue. Laptop plugged in and checking fuses at the mo, battery fine. 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

There was a thread back along of a dashboard plug/socket that could be dislodged by a persons feet, maybe worth looking into Exclamation

As I have the same year/model type albeit a GS, I'm interested in the outcome Thumbs Up

Well, he has gone now and it's still not working. He has ordered a new part (something instrument panel/dashboard/immobiliser related) and will return with it tomorrow late morning.

If that fails, it will be towed to Hunters Derby and LR Assist will give me a courtesy car that they organise via Enterprise. He says that they always try to get a Land Rover for customers but I can absolutely guarantee that with this impending cold and possible snow, it won't be. It will be a bloody Mondeo or something just when I might need 4WD. Evil or Very Mad 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

I would of asked for a hire car today if it was me... What if the part is delayed?

When my dad had a problem with his (turned out to be fuel filter) a discovery hse turned up on the drive... Many people have had range rovers so keep your fingures crossed.

The reason for not towing today is that my car is in an awkward place on the driveway compared to our other car. To get it on the truck would involve fitting some sort of wheel device to the front wheels that act like casters on a settee. The steering lock won't budge you see.

The chap wanted to order the part which is guaranteed tomorrow apparently and fit it on my drive and hopefully that will work. A courtesy car will be ordered promptly from Enterprise if it needs towing (sods law says it won't be a Land Rover) and my car will be taken to Hunters Derby.

The problem now is that if it needs towing, we are on the brink of the weekend so jack sh Censored t will get done on it. It will be mid to late next week easy before anything is done I reckon.

I pray it will be repaired here tomorrow and if not, I pray for a Land Rover because snow is coming apparently. 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Shouldn't matter where your car is. They should give you a courtesy vehicle NOW.

In fairness, he did offer a courtesy vehicle today but I didn't need one today and there is every chance it can be repaired on the drive tomorrow so I thought I would wait and see what happens tomorrow and if it needs towing away, then the courtesy car will be ordered.

I must say, I have read many posts on here where owners have been given another Land Rover when theirs has broken down. Although knowing my luck it will not only not be a Land Rover, it won't have 4WD. Or perhaps they will give me a 2WD Freelander which would also be hideous.

4WD is a must with the cold snap due. 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Thank god for that!

The LR Assist guy has fixed it. I have the report paperwork here and the fault is none start instrument panel - Internal fault on instrument cluster.

New instrument cluster fitted.

Job done and very good service Thumbs Up 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Just as an add on to this, the 'clicking' sound emitted when indicators are active is now different. Must be a newer version of the instrument cluster.

I also had to perform the electric window reset procedure because they would go down with one touch but to get them back up required holding onto the switch.

All is well now Thumbs Up 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack
