FL2 standard issues

Found a FL2 TD4 SE Aut from mid-2007 with only 43K miles on the clock at a quite affordable price. The seller is an official LR dealer and has all the history of the vehicle - they've sold the car by themselves as new and have done all the maintenance from day 1. They claim it was a family's 3rd car with (apparently) very limited use.

The car is nice and feels like almost new - did a test ride yesterday and was impressed. I was able to scroll through the service history in the dealer's computer and it's really all there - they've done a proper maintenance each year etc... The dealer says the pervious owner's lease time of the FL2 was over and he took a RRS instead.

To be honest it all sounds and feels to good to be true, so I'm paranoid about hidden problems although the dealer claims they've examined the vehicle and found no problems. Could you please advise what should I look for? What are the typical problems that could appear?

Thank you in advance Smile

If you get a LR warranty with the car, then I wouldn't be too bothered.
With all the maintenance in the world, any car can drive out of a dealers an break down, or only ever see a dealer when it's time for a service.
An LR dealers records will b a great help if you do have a warranty claim.
When i got mine, the dealer had to give 3 months warranty themselves, then after the three months, the 1 year LR kicked in.
Mine had been serviced by the dealer I got it from since initial delivery.
If I was you, warranty being given, I wouldn't have a problem.

I know your worries, some dealers can find no problem when there is one and its making a racket.
Just make sure the guy checking it isnt wearing a hearing aid.

Then find out if anything been done to the rear diff bearings.

The service record I was shown had nothing about the diff bearings. Of course, it could be that whatever was done by warranty was not in the same list as this was a customer-specific print-out. Anything specific about the rear diff bearings?

Some have had diff issues - a lot have had none.

IF they do need attention they will let you know in no uncertain fashion, they will go from silent to drowning out the radio in less than 1,000 miles (sometimes a lot less).

Some 2007 cars had trouble with the steering - foreign bodies (weld splatter?) in the oil, clog the headertank filter, this starves the oil pump, which produces masses of swarf, this contaminates the oil lines, wrecks the steering rack, and further linds the filter, acceleratng the process. If the car has survived this far there is a good chance it was not one of the effected ones. - listen for noisey steering hydraulics.

By and large the most reliable Land Rover built. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

To further add what Andy has stated. With the engine running undo and remove the power steering cap, what you shouls see inside is a smooth steedy flow of oil in a musheroom shape as the engine is running. This will indicate that there are no flow restrictions and that the filter is not clogging up.
Should you see a rough oil flow with losts of small air bubbles in it and looks like its boiling then there is a problem as the filter will be choked.
Depending on how long this has been going on for the steering rack, pump and resivour along with the oil will need to be replaced as damage will have already been done, over a £1000 if you have to pay for it yourself.
other problems, clutch slip if its a manual, seat belt wear to the upper plastic door pillar on both sides.
listen for any abnormal whines on turning left or right, you will know if you have any of these problems

Bt all of those should be covered under the warranty. Sounds like a good buy. I think it's now too old to buy a full LR extended warranty when the dealer's runs out, but you can still get the "select" warranty for peace of mind. Covers most things including the above (but not, strangely, the fan belt tensioner). Clutch is probably OK if it hasn't gone by now. You might struggle to get that under extended warranty once the dealer's own has run out.

It realy does sound like a very good buy, but check the bonding on the corners of the wind screen, I had a 2007 (57) frelander the bonding was faled and LR changed the wind screen under warranty. I've noticed orther 2007 freelander with the same problem. 2013 hse auto, black, almond leather, exnon lights, factory privacy glass, exhaust finisher, rear boot spoiler, mud flaps. Body door side moulding and steps.

Gone and fondly remembered
2012 XS (2013 up-grade LED lights front & rear)
2007 hse (2011 facelift)

I bought a 57 HSE with similar mileage and circumstances 18 months ago and have had no problems apart from the heated screen element failed which they replaced even though not a warranty item. This was done (twice) as goodwill because it was an approved used car.
All in all I have been very happy with the service received and the cost of the screens alone have made up for any extra markup the dealers charge.
There are very few people moaning about "Friday afternoon" FL2s on this forum, I get the impression they are pretty reliable if properly cared for.
