Scotland 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

Whilst sitting next to wife driving from South of Scotland to the North the car developed an annoying rattle from centre console whilst car was travelling at about 55 mph. Despite levering every crack, seam with a coin and randomly thumping the plastic bits the rattle carried on until I touched the lower rim of the rear view mirror ..... Peace.

Does this only happen with the wife in the car? Razz

My rear view mirror does the same. I am generally able to move it out of position and back into position to rectify for some duration of time.

I have my car key on a ring with a leather fob which has a metal badge on it. Sometimes my house key, which is on the same ring, rattles against the badge on the fob.

I couldn't get this to occur when at the dealer's but it persists so I shimmed the mirror with a tiny piece of rubber. Prevents mirror buzzing against the frame of the mirror, is invisible. Problem solved. ...

.... Only when she's driving ! She had moved the rear view mirror a little moving the frame around the glass. It was surprising how much noise was coming from the mirror and how far the noise travelled. So far no more rattles.
The Freelander is a new car to us having recently upgraded from a Disco3. So far apart from the rattle I like the improved fuel economy, less RFL . The back seat passengers are missing the heated seats though....

Hi, My Freelander is an 09 GS Auto and it has developed a rattle that appears to come from below the speaker grill in the centre of the dashboard. It is very intermittent and occurs only on rough roads so it is a bit difficult to reproduce and diagnose. Is this similar to yours? I am about to book it in at the main agent to try to get it sorted before the car is a year old.

came across this ancient thread and just wondered if you ever found the cause of the rattle- i have exactly the same problem? Confused FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

Once I had a strange rattle from what I thought was the front. Took me weeks to find it. It turned out it was something sitting the rear right door pocket. Couldn't believe it how the sound played tricks on where it was coming from.

Agree, listen from a different position in the car. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Check the fixing screws of the air intake pipe are tight.
