2011 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Fuji White
'Official' tyre info

Afternoon all,

Apologies to all in advance if this is common knowledge or has already been covered in another thread by others.

In needing to renew tyres for the first time since ownership, I became slightly concerned about the suggested implications of inadvertently choosing an inappropriate tyre size/make (insurance, general safety, technical issues relating to rolling diameter, et-al).

So after much confusion and searching I eventually stumbled upon the following on the TOPIx website, which I assume is the ‘definitive’ guide to formally approved boots for the LR range.

JLR 17 54 10_1E - Land Rover Tyre Information - Approvals

If link doesn’t work you can navigate your way to it via the following:-

OWNER>ACCESSORY FITTING INSTRUCTIONS>WHEELS & TYRES> JLR17 54 10_1E-LAND ROVER TYRE INFO-APPROVALS

Hope this is of some use to others.

That's very useful and answers the query that has come up here before - namely that although V rated tyres are specified in the handbook, most winter tyres come H rated. Land Rover seem now to have clearly stated that H rated winter tyres are OK.
Interestingly today I got an e-mail from my dealer advising fitting winter tyres. They advise the Goodyears for 17" and Contis for 19", but don't actually state the speed rating! (And do quote an unfeasibly high price).
Seems to me that if LR are recommending H rated Goodyears, then H rated Wintracs to the same spec must also be fine by definition.
Seems odd that for some tyres they are even recommending Q and T, which are lower speed ratings.

The only real difficulty is that you can never get an exact match of tyre to the original spec tyres fitted at the factory.

The factory ones are very specific , confirmed by a letter and the coloured banding on the tread. usually the side walls are slight different to allow for any wheel cambers hence why the first set always last longer than equivalent replacements.
