Australia 2007 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Tambora Flame
Australian video review of MY13

Hey all,

In case you hadn't seen it, this is the Drive video review of the MY13 Freelander 2.

http://media.brisbanetimes.drive.com.au/ca...84585.html

A positive review.

Those ruts they were traversing looked mighty big. I would have left a brown mark in my undies if I were in the car!

Cheers,
Whytey 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

I have been wondering whether to upgrade my 08 model or trade it for a different 4w4 but I reckon I'll keep it and run it till it dies. I have a Jeep as well that is good off road and the FL2 goes nearly everywhere the Jeep does only in comfort. There are sufficient scratches on my FL2 so that I'm not so hesitant to give some tracks a try anymore. You should have seen the billy goat track we did last weekend. I was out with 2 Jeeps and they were amazed that it could do the track. There were girl passengers in the Jeeps and they were crapping themselves because the track was so steep, rutted and rocky. Literally white and shaking they were Smile Anyway, I can't part with such a brilliant little machine and I wouldn't want to scratch or dent a new one. I may get an MY13 model in a few years when mine dies and they are half price with low kms. Thanks for the link, it looks good.

Mikehzz - know what you mean about the scratches V's propensity for for adventurous off-roading. Since my MY11 FL2 was scratched within 30 minutes of buying it, I knew I was going to enjoy off-roading and more scratches, rather than a blessed life in the city. I too, toss up between trading up to a new version, versus running this one even more vigorously through the bush. I have been treating the FL2 pretty rough at work lately, hauling tonne after tonne of dirt, gravel and sand for work. All the staff still love the chance to jump in the FL2 though, and it has come through liker a trooper, bar some dirty seats and mats. To reinforce my satisfaction with the FL2, I borrowed Dad's Toyota Landcruiser the other day for some heavier haulage work and had to travel 4.5hours each way for the pickup. I couldn't wait to get out of the bloody thing - I nearly stopped off to buy a kidney belt!

I'm leaving on Boxing day for a week in the Vic High Country. I'm sure I will add a few bruises to it down there. I'm planning to do Tom Groggin, Blue Rag, Wonangatta and Billy Goats Bluff. I'll be impressed if I get through that lot. Smile Cheers.

As soon as I can get this fan-dangled "Work-Life" balance thing happening, I'll be off for a summer trip to the high country. As reported previously, I take an annual trip into the Snowy Mountains and enjoy the snow driving / extreme camping, but I've always wanted to experience the summer months. The wildlife is pretty spectacular in the middle of winter, so I can only imagine how good it would be in summer when many of the animals and birds venture higher up into the alps. Some of the spots you mention Mike sound very familiar and are no doubt places I visited as a kid when we often traveled vast distances on our trials bikes.

I understand about the work life balance because I run my own business. I only have the 1 week available and was originally going to do Fraser again (10 years since I was there) but it's over 1000 kms away and crowded at this time of year. The High Country is a lot closer and will be cooler at night for sleeping. Wildlife is good unless it wants to crash into me Smile I just hope the river levels are low because there are a stack of crossings. I'm travelling with my son in his Jeep so we can pull each other out if needed. Cheers

Didn't the Ford Eco-Boost engine fail some of the Australian emissions standards?
Not that's a problem most would opt for the diesel version anyway.

I am prepared for the flame war here, but I am not sure that the outside looks better than the 2012?

Since no metal or glass has changed, the difference is only really noticeable to dedicated enthusiasts Surprised)

PS Can anyone tell me what the chassis tweaks were in 2011 or 2012. There's already been some threads about the turbo and the elimination of the quarter-wave resonators from the intake air tube. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88
Current 2015 Discovery Sport HSE 2.0
