Getting back on topic, it's not so much the overt bias the BBC shows in its news that bothers me - I counteract that by reading the Daily Mail Thumbs Up

What really gets me annoyed is the constant assumptions in their fictional output that if you're white, christian and/or right wing in outlook then you're "obviously" wrong on all counts. Heroes, story lines, villains, scare stories - they all demonise what I see as the historic "English" patterns of thought and behaviour. It's assumed throughout that the "correct" line of thought is left-wing atheist. Whenever christian beliefs are held by characters they are always semi-manic and held up to ridicule. "Old-fashioned" family values are regularly trashed, divorce and infidelity always triumph.

Most people don't watch the news output, whereas large swathes of the population take on board East Enders, Casualty, etc etc as the patterns to match. No wonder the country's on its moral uppers.

[quote="Badger1970"]Better known as the B@stard Broadcasting Corporation. My one hope coming from the Saville scandal is that the BBC is dismantled...

Hmmm... accept that BBC can & do make mistakes. I've worked in enough large organisations to know that goes without saying but do you really believe that other broadcasters are better in some way? Do you really want some mash-up of News International / Fox / Dirty Desmond's output etc etc setting the broadcasting agenda.
FWIW, I believe the BBC is, on the whole, a broadcaster of excellence and only lets itself down when it 'competes'... As a publicly funded broadcaster it is free to do the things that other 'ratings-chasers' wouldn't dream of doing.
1. Quality programming without f Censored g adverts every 12 sodding minutes
2. Just about all of Radio 4 (except the ba Censored rd Archers and "Time to make a Coffee" otherwise known as 'Thought for the Day' <groan>
3. Wildlife / science / current affairs programming of very high quality
4. HIGNFY
5. Ed Reardon's Week. Wahey!
6. ETC...
All in all, the BBC is great value for its licence fee. IMHO. I certainly don't want the wall to wall utter sh Censored te that the commercial channels puke out all over the airwaves day in day out. ...

Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies...

@piattj et al

Hmmm... accept that BBC can & do make mistakes. * At whose expense? The Licence payers? No offer to reimburse them though, is there?
I've worked in enough large organisations to know that goes without saying but do you really believe that other broadcasters are better in some way? * No, not especially, I just resent having a Tax forced upon me which is unquestionable by the powers that be.
Do you really want some mash-up of News International / Fox / Dirty Desmond's output etc etc setting the broadcasting agenda. *Certainly not, I want impartial, accurate, factual broadcasting...not much to expect given the exorbitant forced aforementioned Tax that I am expected to pay towards it, is it??

FWIW, I believe the BBC is, on the whole, a broadcaster of excellence and only lets itself down when it 'competes'... As a publicly funded broadcaster it is free to do the things that other 'ratings-chasers' wouldn't dream of doing.
1. Quality programming without f Censored g adverts every 12 sodding minutes *Agreed, but "quality" Repeats get somewhat tedious.
2. Just about all of Radio 4 (except the ba Censored rd Archers and "Time to make a Coffee" otherwise known as 'Thought for the Day' <groan> * Fair comment
3. Wildlife / science / current affairs programming of very high quality * Fair comment again, but without the lying, lefty "environmental" message being falsely conveyed in each and every broadcast.
4. HIGNFY * Used to be brilliant, but then the PC Brigade got unnecessarily involved and broke up the wit and humour, and ultimate sucess of the programme by firing Deayton!.
5. Ed Reardon's Week. Wahey! * A matter of personal opinion.
6. ETC...* Meaning?
All in all, the BBC is great value for its licence fee. IMHO. I certainly don't want the wall to wall utter sh Censored te that the commercial channels puke out all over the airwaves day in day out. * Quite. However, I am not alone in thinking that it's business model is completely outdated, and that they need to lose a few more "over-privileged, overpaid, outdated stalwarts". And that's just the Management, middle-tier and upwards, never mind the Presenters! Take the politics out of it, and they might stand half a chance of surviving....on current form, they are not long for this world!

That is all..... Foraging near Gaydon....
