United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Baltic Blue
Difficult Gear Selection

I bought our 2011 XS Manual a few months ago and joined Freel2 at the same time. Although I am not generally one for using forums I thought it was about time I introduced myself and made my first post.
I am really pleased with my Freelander so far but there is one issue that has developed which is difficult gear selection. I have seen some other posts on a similar topic but not quite the same.
I first noted it taking more effort to select 4th gear than the others. Then 1st gear from standing became really quite obstructive. Then they all became ‘clunky’, sometimes you would get a sweet gear change sometimes you would not.
Took it back to Stratstones who noted that it was a bit clunky and so lubricated the gear linkages. To be fair this approach did improve things but the gear change is still not as good as when I first got it.
Any ideas for when I take it back ?

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver

The linkage has been know to wear ( gear box end on the Knuckles ) plus if the linkage is not set right after a clutch replacement !! it can be very difficult to select the gears. It's worked it self loose has it ???
hope you can get it sorted . Thumbs Up

I have to grease both the underbonnet cable/linkage and underneath the in cab gearlever gater at regular intervals otherwise it displays exactly the same symptoms Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Thanks for response. The service guy at the dealers implied that they had changed some aspect of the linkage design to prevent the problem that occured on earlier models.
It is good that things are still pointing to the linkage as sometimes it does feel like the gearbox itself.
