Maybe it was all the short sorties driving back and forth and having fun in the snow that flattened it

Well, in general cold weather and batteries are not the best of friends. It is said that this happens a lot more to new cars with all the electronics, than the old ones without all the electronics. The electronics use some power all the time, draining the battery. The colder it is, the more the battery suffers. That is why it is important to start up the car now and then, to keep the battery (and the car as such) from freezing completely. Then there is no power left. But I had expected the battery to be able to start. I only had it standing still in the cold for 8 days, starting it up for a few minutes in the middle of those 8 days. But next time I will start it up more often, and let the engine run for longer than a few minutes. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack. |

Also I've been advised not to put in gear and move the car immediately after strating the engine as the baterry loading system is not working fully in the first seconds. I've been told to wait a couple of seconds, say untill the radio/cd comes on and then put in gear.
