The story starts back in April 2006 when we were looking to replace the Mrs car which we had owned since new and was just over three years old.
![]()
In a lot of ways, I still think, why did we sell it!! Maybe because it was our second Zafira GSi. The first was owned from new in March 2002 and was agreed to be taken back by Vauxhall in January 2003 due to a few more niggling faults than is acceptable. Vauxhalls customer service was just fantastic and they could not do enough to resolve the problems. So they replaced the car FOC and also paid for half of the 3200 of options I specified on the replacement. So after nearly 4 years of Zafira GSi ownership we decided on a change. After a lot of thought, we decided on a brand new Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 Turbo S-Line Special Edition. Here it is :- ![]() This is only one of two pictures I have of the car as it was a total disaster. It was just one problem after another. We went to collect from the dealer in June 2006 at the agreed time. When we arrived it was not ready and still had the white shipping sheets all over the car. So we had to wait 4 hours for it to be ready. So not a good start! To cut a long story short, 14 months and :- 7 air mass meters 1 engine wiring loom 2 gearboxs New rear seat frame New drivers seat frame New Dash Loom We decided to get rid of it as the car was a disaster, and Audis customer service left a lot to be desired. You would think a premium brand would have good service. So we started looking again at replacements. An 4x4 was decided on as we wanted something decent to tow with. We tried the BMW X3 2.0d M-Sport, but it was too harsh to drive for a 4x4, we may as well looked at a 3 series touring. Vauxhall Antara, which was nice but it was a thirsty engine and the residuals were not good. Walked in and out of the Nissan dealer without actually looking at the X-Trail. February 2008
May 2008 As a trip with the caravan to the South of France was only a matter of months away, I bought forward the plans for the DVD system. As an Alpine fan, this lot was ordered and fitted. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I used the AUX input for the DVD sound, so that it comes through the car speakers. I reverse this now my daughter uses the headphones, then I can use the iPod again. June 2008 I wanted to make the car look a neater along the side, so a set of Discovery 3 body colour handles were bought and fitted. ![]() Whilst I was at it. I looked at the 2008 model year HSE Premium pack and like the storage box for the console, so this was ordered and fitted. ![]() Half term 2008 saw the Freelander used as a Tow car for the first time, so down to the New Forest and enjoyed the fact that floods were not a problem! ![]() Then in July 2008, it was off to the French/Spanish border on holiday. ![]() November 2008 I finally got round to fitting the HSE rear spoiler that I had been promising myself since having the car. So I managed to get a brand new one for 75! Got it painted and on the car. Also, after good service, the original 18 HSE wheels were sold on and replaced with a brand new set of 19 Shadow Chromes and Continental UHP tyres.

November 2012
I have to say, I was a little unsure, but now I realise I should have done it 6 months ago! I think with the style of my car, they blend in quite well and don't look in your face. The car is 100% no harder than driving on the 19's which surprised me, maybe it is the Michelin Tyres. But it drives really well. Anyway here are a few pics.
Had to start with a clean car of course!
The finished article!
Let me know what you think. but I think they work well. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come......... Last edited by Mav71 on 16th Dec 2012 6:38 pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Not sure. The rear lights sound appealing but the fronts will be way too expensive to do as I have Adaptive Xenons.

The only downside is you have reduced the value of the car by at least half. I doubt if any dealer will actually want to take it in part exchange in the future as it would cost too much to restore it back to what it should be for that year.
