2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Indus Silver
Strange knocking noise from front.

Couple of weeks back heard some knocking noises from what appeared to be either engine bay or in dash area middle bottom. Checked out, nothing obvious and noise then did not appear until today again.

Once again knocking noise from same area, no correlation to going over bumps or not, seems to happen more if turning corner, though not every corner.

Also windscreen wipers in action wondered if they could be catching on something internal.

Anyone else come across this problem or any ideas as to what it might be Question

It will be the lower ball joint bolts. My Freelander did it and so did the Evoque till it had modified bolts a few weeks ago and now all ok. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
(Past) RR Evoque Dynamic Lux Si4 In Firenze Red.
(Past) RR Evouque Pure Tech in Barollo Black with bespoke Firenze Red colour coding.
(Present) Freelander Metropolis 2015 MY In Santorini Black with Ivory Premium Leather.

Er no it won't. If you look freelander arms are very different to Evoque and the Evoque problem does not have different/modified bolts either. They are still the same only with different tightening torques. The way the freelander ball joint is secured is also very different.

More likely to be drop link nuts come loose which is what we occasionally see in our dealership.

Went out today covered about 190 miles.
Ruled out wipers
Started making noise again on roughish road ssurface seemed to be more bottom steering column this time, this was after a couple of miles and quite loud, then nothing for the next 185 miles.

To think my nuts could be dropping is a worry though Mad

Only covered 5, 500 miles from new Exclamation

Monday 08.30 hrs morning phones TH Whites Swindon, left message as all service busy, phoned again 9am 9.30 10 10 30 still busy all with customers. Still await there call back 2 days later Evil or Very Mad

Phoned Westover Sailsbury spoke to service guy who suggested best to call LRA, or he could do it for me, so it could be checked out rather than possibly causing any damage.

LRA arrived 2 hrs later, checked over no obvious faults, took it out for test drive and managed to re create noise going up same hill as Sat, though much quieter this time. LRA guy then asked me to repeat this so he could listen again, but too late it had gone again and could not get it to make any noise even off road.

Anyway hire car arranged to collect Tues AM at Westover Sailsbury and now driving round in a RRS Sport Autobiography, every cloud has a silver lining Smile

The smell of new leather is quite in-toxicating, though still think the front bumper of the Sport quite ugly, especially on the Autobiography. A whales mouth springs to mine
