changing banks

hi

has any ever changed banks?

decided to change banks to TSB so simple i was told just give us details of your old bank and we will write to them for details of your direct debits, well they cancelled them alright BUT it don't look as if the gave them the new sort code and account number to take payments from Censored , i have had phone calls and e-mail asking why i have cancelled payments, Evil or Very Mad 1995 P38 now dead

When I moved to my bank, it was straight forward

I called in the old branch, told the manager his bank was useless

Told my boss to pay the new account, wrote a cheque and paid it in and job done, no DD's at the time, so life was simple Laughing

I switched to first direct. They did all the leg work and they also offered a guarantee if bills did not get paid. They also gave me a 100 for the privilege Thumbs Up tops marks - uk service desk, always answer quickly - wouldn't have a problem recommending them to anyone. Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

phoned TSB this morning and after a laborious security questions i got one wrong Big Cry SORRY i cant help you we will have to send you a security number to use next time Censored OR you can phone back and try again(whats the point in sending a security number if i can just phone back Question )

10 out of 10 this time i past the security questions Thumbs Up we sent out the electronic statement to cancel you direct debits from you old bank and gave them the new account and sort codes for your new account ITS NOT OUR FAULT THEY HAVE NOT IMPLEMENTED THE NEW DETAILS i suggest you phone then yourself and update them with the account numbers,WE CAN NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY NONE PAYMENTS FROM TODAY ONWARDS AS YOU HAVE INFORMED US OF THIS PROBLEM Censored

so it looks like a weekend digging out policy numbers and all day Monday on the phone, 1995 P38 now dead

Main problem I found was just with the direct debits, they told me they sorted everything to make sure the transfer went smoothly, however some direct debit payments were missed, initially, as they didnt do the transfer properly.
Ok they refunded me all the costs involved etc, but its was hassle phoning them up to sort it all out, especially when they said they did everything to make sure it went SMOOTHLY, they dont, necessarily!!

I would think if youve got an account without involving direct debits, its relatively easy to do.
Its the transfer of the direct debit part that puts most folk off trying to change banks.

Until the transfer of Bank accounts is automated via BACS ( which was supposed to happen at least two years ago )
Best advice :- Open new Bank account
Then start to move all Direct debits over yourself + salary, keep a 'float' in your old Bank account to cover any Direct debits as if they are returned unpaid Bank will charge you + impact on your credit status
The above is only if you wish to guarantee no problems!!!
This advise is based on working for a Bank for past 39 years !!! 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.
