Dont know if anyone has encountered this but thought I would post in case anyone else does. Took my wifes Freelander off road a couple of weeks ago and found it nearly as good as my Supercharged Vogue but managed to bend one of the axle tie rods (The small pressed steel one). On returning it to management after washing it she took it for a drive then complained I had killed it and it now "Felt funny" and that the steering wheel was now not central. I had a quick look underneath and noticed the bent tie rod so ordered one from my local robbers (Lookers Colchester) and set about fitting it only to find that because of the way the good people in the factory fitted it I would have to drop the fuel tank to remove the bolt once the nut was removed. This post is just to say DONT DO IT, with a little bit of messing about instead I was able to release the filler pipe from the tank, then undo the tank carrier bracket bolts which then allows the tank to be levered (carefully) forward enough to get the bolt out. Then its just a matter of replacing the tank carrier bolts and fitting the new tie rod but putting the bolt in the other way round so the nut is next to the tank not the bolt. Hope this is of help to someone. |
