Freelander as a company car... not

I've been so impressed with our Freelander I thought I might have one of my own on the company car scheme, and I do know that full maintenance lease prices vary from company to company and I do now that we get great discounts from the German brands.... However i was surprised to find that on a like for like basis of two cars specced up to 」33k I would have had to make a 」120 + a month personal contribution to my company limit to get a Freelander or EWOK , and only 」36 for an A4 Avant or 3 touring. what finaly sealed it was the emissions on the Freelander would also mean an extra 」600 a year BIK tax as well comapred to the others. So come April the beemers going, replaced by a Glacier White A4 Avant SE Technik, leather and Alcantara sports seats, adaptive xenons and a host of other goodies, what a shame LR can't compete on fleet cars. I did think about a personal lease but hopefully this motor will see me to an early retirement and then it will be playtime ! 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Well I can only have a company car with under 120 CO2 think yourself lucky! Thank God they stopped building the Sinclair C5 or I'd be in one of them.

Hence have a FL2 as second car

I think that should read "Thank GOD LR can't compete on fleet cars"

Every A4 driving psycho under the sun would want one, thus devaluing the residuals. Simples Laughing Foraging near Gaydon....

The Audi will be bang on 120 for 163 bhp , that was the selling point, the 177bhp beemers are also great at 123co for Autos ! but i'm fed up with the Halifax hills and BMs in winter so we'll give another "master race" Laughing Laughing motor a chance 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

unfortunately I think the residual must be the problem Badger , i've seen the discount list and we get 15% on a Freelander , plus the lease company gets an extra 3% so to cost more per month to lease the residual must be pants and more importantly the lifetime running cost for the 80k mile lease must be way higher than the German equivalents which by and large are on condition rather than interval servicing. Still low residuls are great for buying second hand when I need another Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I run a Freelander 2 as a company car and I'm happy to pay a premium to drive it over the ubiquitous 3 Series or A4's (or the equivalent Seats and Skodas) that are issued to the reps.

The German manufacturers love to spin the line that their lease rates are low because of high residuals but, surprisingly, the lease companies are much more influenced by huge up front discounts and promises of low running costs and huge service intervals than they ever are by residual values.

Fair point, but at the end of the day it's the "lifetime cost" that you are leasing if you are on a full maintenance lease which is the only option I get and i just can't bring myself to pop out another 8 grand over 4 years when Im lucky enough to have a Freelander in the garage already and that money will change it. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Land Rover are struggling to meet the demand for new vehicles at the moment, just look at delivery lead times for a build to order vehicle. As a result and until such time as they can up production levels they have no real incentive to offer discounts to fleet buyers.

This is a point, the contract hire rates have gone up significantly since I took mine out 18 months ago.

I would automatically have another Freelander, if the budget will stretch, but the lease rate is the only thing that's likely to stop me. Where else could I go after one of these? Volvo haven't built anything decent since the last of the Phase 2 V70's in 2007 and (obviously) I'd rather walk than drive a 3 Series.

Jaguar have done some storming lease deals on 2.2D XF estates recently and that's unlikely to change too much over the next year or so....

Thanks Thumbs Up

I was as impressed by the XF estate as I was as depressed by the 520d Touring I took out before I got the Freelander! It would have to be something pretty special to encourage me away from another Freelander and the XF is the only thing that comes close....
