Also make sure the bump stops on the tailgate are correctly adjusted. They should be enough to stop the gate rattling but so tight that they put the lock under tension Ralph

The water in the switch will have started the corrosion hence it triggers the mechanism hence it opens the tailgate. |

maybhe there is something in the latch or a twisted door seal but the switch is still most likely cause At work |

You can rotate them by finger and thumb on my car. I put a piece of masking tape on the body where the bumpstops contact it and then back them off till they do not mark the tape. By rotating them half a turn at a time , both together, you can get them perfectly balanced. I continue adjusting until there is a complete black ring on the tape plus half a turn. That should give you the right pressure to ensure the tailgate is sealed but without putting strain on the locking mechanism. hope this helps. Ralph
