It could be worse

I had a 3 series, a Mini and a 1 series BMW all with frameless doors.
When you open the door the window would always drop down a fraction. The doors could be opened with force if the window were frozen but then wouldn't shut again.
On very cold mornings the door had to be held almost closed by a bungee. It would take ages for the mechanism to thaw.
My own stupid fault for having such cars though.

Vauxhall taught me the silicon window fix years ago, it was the only way to get the windows on an astra to shut, otherwise they rubbed on the seals too much and bounced down again. I believe I mentioned it to AndyC at the time At work

That happened to me. But my window got stuck half open! Had to drive down the A3 in -3C! Big Cry Managed to get it back up eventually but now it's making a funny noise. Going to take it to my dealer when the door is repaired.

As I have just got my first Freelander I have been reading the manual and it does have a note regarding frozen side windows in the Climate Control Section:

Note: In low temperatures it is advisable to
close the centre face level vent, and direct air
flow from the outer face level vents towards the
side windows. This will help to keep the
windows clear of ice.

Maybe ambient cabin temperature isn't enough on its own.
