How long for heat?

Is it just mine or do others have to wait 5 to 10 mins for heat to come through the blowers...Any recommendation on settings..It is a gs and has front heated window.

I start the engine, switch everything to maximum then keep the revs at 2000 for about three or four minutes before driving...lovely and warm.
Heated seats and front screen are a god send on these mornings. _________________

I'd say it's about five minutes. If it's 10 minutes, that's a very long time.

Granted, we rarely get frigid temperatures where I live as I live on the ocean, but we usually get 2-3 weeks of VERY cold subfreezing temps per year.

New Jersey (shore) is temperate winters and HOT summers. Less than an hour from me, things are freezing. Thumbs Up CAR HISTORY

If I start it and leave it idling it's a good 5 mins before heat starts coming through.

What I do though, is get in, start, heated screen on, get out and scrape front 2 side windows. By the time I've done this the front screen has melted enough for the wipers to work so get in and drive off. Once you're moving it only takes a minute or so for heat to get through.

Even sat with the engine running at 2k won't significantly speed up the heaters...it's load that you need on the engine. You're just unnecessarily revving a cold engine...which is bad! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Exacly. Natural driving heats up the cabin faster than any contrived method. For all of my vehicles (right down to my boat) I keep it in low RPMs until it's heated up and then go wild. I actually feel the heat in my FL2 faster than my old Saab or VW, though! CAR HISTORY

Mine starts producing heat almost instantly from cold start up. Now i haven't seen it but assumed it had a tube with glow plugs in the hot water circuit that heats the water rapidly to assist the heater because the heater is so instant.

May it that's one thing that actually works well on mine Thumbs Up

On my X-type 2.2 sport there was a metal tube in the water cooling pipe to the heater with a series of glow plugs fitted in it which i always assumed assisted with instant hot water to the heater when the engine was cold.

Mine heats up within a couple of minutes, use the PROG button and it turns on the PTC electric heater fitted in the air duct, heated seats on, screen on and within a couple of minutes all is clear enough to drive away.

Very true, all automatic dependant on temp. If you have it on auto it won't even put any air out until it has warmed up. Obviously on manual you decide on air flow.

Bit here about it;
