Reg plates

Does anyone know why when photos are posted into a gallery, etc. people sometimes delete the registration plate?

Pretty obvious really Shocked - In Norway at least it is for security reasons - Send an SMS to a certain number and you immediately get a reply who owns the car and the basic address - look this up in the telephone catalogue and you got the full address. I would think so the reg no can not be used to do ilegal things like car ringing or obtaining regestration documents in that cars details or false plates made 07my Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Baltic Blue,Privacy Glass,Ebony black leather,Land rover detachable towbar,S/S Side bars,Climair wind deflectors,Bramble Rash,

I've heard all the reasons WHY in loads of car forums, but it just does not make sense IMHO.

Reasons not making sense:
a) Clone the plates
Errrmm ... I could pick any car I see on any road and still clone their plates

b) Security
Errrmm ... I could pick any car I see and follow them home (especially local folks)

c) all variations of the above
Same....

My number plate is TTC 546 - so there! Ner Ner Chris

I'm with Chris on this one. If i wanted to do something bad, I see plenty of number plates when i'm driving along and could use any one of them.

I could understand a celebrity blanking out a plate so that idiot groupies couldn't find out where they live, but the rest of us mortals?

The car cloning etc. is not really valid, but I would guess that if a thief were to come on here then they could read your posts and see your high spec'd vehicle then it could make it an easy target if they get the reg.............however if a thief were to do this then they'd spend all their time on the forums and not have time to be out stealing Laughing

Not really much point in blanking them out I guess, but whatever makes you feel comfortable. Thumbs Up

We should not forget what happened to annesley23 FL2 not so long ago Rolling Eyes
quote "The car was stolen from my house. They broke in and stole the keys." unquote Shocked
It is just conceivable that a car thief finds his swag on car forums like this one, it is then a fairly simple matter to find exactly were he can pick up a FL2 exactly to his taste Shocked
Of course we that have grey FL2's are pretty safe as I guess it will be the Black ones that are stolen first Laughing 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Whilst a FL2 is a great car, frequenting this forum specifically to target stealing one just does not make sense. Confused Not exactly a rare Ferrari is it?

Why not sit by the roadside and wait till one comes along - then follow it. Much easier.

If one got stolen from the driveway from someones house, I suspect it was just opportunity and not a specific target by reading a car forum. Sad Chris
