Hole in fuel tank...

Looks like I've put a bit of branch through the tank (diesel) on the weekend. Very very rough/soft sand tracks at Fraser Island. There's a pinprick hole with the very tip of the branch still stick in it on the bottom of the tank. Very slow leak at the moment.

Anyone got a solution that doesn't involve removing/replacing the tank? Is there a poly product out there that will seal it?

Cheers!

either thread a self tapping screw into the hole, or use a small blow torch/soldering iron and and a piece of the very same plastic material (preferably a spare piece trimmed off the tank itself) do a bit of plastic welding.

Shocked something tells me not to use a blowtorch around the fuel tank

Diesel is not like petrol, it has a very high flashpoint. You still need to take care though.

I remember in the days before "winter diesel" seeing lorry drivers light fires under the fuel tank to get the thing going! John

the blow torch would be heating a metal melting tool not aimed directly at the tank, diesel fuel does burn and can be ignited by even a small spark plug, but it needs to be in a very fine spray and in a good forced air flow, ala diesel space heaters etc, a flame near normal diesel isnt going to cause a major danger but common sense is required. At work

the tank is fine with heat, its more the leaking fuel that would be a danger At work
